I heard about it like a year ago and searched it on internet and the articles seemed not so relyable. Couldn't find out if it's a hoax or not. Not common anyway.

Probably not a hoax, but the fact that such a bug can be found somewhere occasionally does not mean that it will spread all over the world... in 99,999% of the cases, gonorrhea can still be easily treated by a combination of 2 ABitoics. Using only one can lead to those resistant bugs...

The story as written was a hyperbolic hoax.

The letter that was sent out was urging pharmacies and physicians to prescribe the correct treatments for gonorrhea to prevent new, harder to treat, strains from developing.

There is currently no strain that is untreatable, though there are several that are difficult to treat.
