What are some things that you don’t mind paying extra for due to quality, convenience, etc.?

Personally, I splurge the most when it comes to bedding (quality), concert tickets (convenience), and shoes (comfort).

Just to make things more interesting: P4P & vanilla dates don’t count.

I splurge on food... for quality and flavor... For me nothing is more disappointing than paying too much for mediocre food. It seems to be getting more common in Tokyo for me... or maybe I'm having bad food karma recently.
2 of my favorite restaurants were less than terrific the last time I dined there... with bills at the 40,000JPY mark (1 bottle of wine) and to leave feeling MEH.... I won't be visiting them anytime soon. It's happened to me about 1 per 2 months the past year 1/2... Anyone else experience this ?
Other things I "splurge" on.... shoes... italian leather is the best.... Lube - Astroglide can't be beat... good beef.... A511 in Akasaka is one of my favorites... :D

The more I get old... I mean experienced the more I am willing to pay for the service. And I don't mean I need a red carpet and people bowing at me but nowadays whatever I am shopping I will most probably do the buying from a place where they have sales guys/girls who know what they are talking about.

When I was younger I was more inclined to study everything myself and then finding the best deal on everything. Nowadays I value my time more and am willing to pay for the expertise. Probably this has led me to value p4p also more than in my younger days. :D

Great question! One of the areas I splurge on are nice watches. I admire the skill, dedication, and craftsmanship involved in making these portable works of art. Their meticulous attention to detail is to the level of impractical madness, which may be why I am so fascinated with it.

Check out this video to get a sense of their insanity.

Here is another link that speaks to the level of detail they put in.

I'm a food splurger too, not too much though because yeah, nothing is more aggravating than paying a bunch for a meal that is at best mediocre especially when there are some places that are super cheap and SO DELICIOUS in Japan. So if I'm going to splurge on food I need to research a place pretty thoroughly and hopefully talk to some people who have been there. So many places get high ratings just because they're SUPPOSED to (Like fancy cafe's or instagram style restaurants) but I'm all about the taste over the presentation or brand.

The one thing I splurge on occasion is commissioned art works. I always joke "My kink is finding great artists on Esty and GIVING THEM ALL MY MONEY" it's just nice to get something crafted or made on commission, because you're getting it tailored to you and you're also in communication with the person making it for you which makes it a little more meaningful.

I splurge the most on wine. I love wine and when I have a favorite, I do bulk orders.

I agree, the restaurants I've been to were excellent, then after 3 - 4 years they change chef or something and the food quality went down to the point it was less than enjoyable... They were nice places as far as ambiance, just the food was meh... for me French restaurants are way over rated in Tokyo... except a few less well known where the chef's actually spent time in France to learn their craft....

Camera gear - mostly lenses and lighting equipment :snaphappy:
Macintosh computers :geek:
Food trucks :hungry:

I never really thought of paying for quality as splurging. If anything not paying for quality is cutting corners. That is to say given a selection of products, if the one that doesnt fucking fail quickly costs more, well yes, I'll spend more money there even if it means I cut back on other expenses.

"Buy cheap, buy twice"

I splurge on kitchen items. My home kitchen is better outfitted than most restaurants...

Next item on the list is a Jura fully automated coffee maker.

If I look at splurge as paying more than the market minimum for a basic necessity which the quality is abstract or a matter of perception (we all have to eat but personally prefer Brand A over Brand B for example even brand A costs more) then the thing I'll splurge on is sexual intercourse, or to put it bluntly, pussy.

Theres bare minimum market price pussy like ¥10,000 Gotanda Chinese pussy and then theres spending multiples of that on independent escorts. Generally most of the things that men enjoy beyond simple penetration of a warm wet hole become subjective. What quantitatively differentiates thrusting until ejaculation? The experience around the penetrative act is the subjective pleasure I'll splurge on.

How bout that answer @MissInsomnia ?

Well, the original post says p4p and vanilla dates don't count. So I guess a non-p4p date where you do anal would qualify?:D

Oh... Well in that case, no. Last "date" that resulted in anal was hardly a splurge, cost me a tsutaya rental and two cans of chu hai.

I suppose splurge is more "Here is a thing that I do not need, and maybe already have a functional one of, but I'm going to buy a second one because it's pretty/interesting/different/a collectable"
So like buying more than one watch, if you have a watch and it's not broken why do you need a second or a third, or possibly a whole collection of watches? Any watch beyond the first is a splurge, moreso the more expensive they get for things that go beyond "It's reliable and functional"

There are so many great craftpeople on Etsy and elsewhere that do amazing things for, considering what they're doing, stupidly low prices. Custom rings, watches, costumes, handmade pipes, (Both wood and glass), swords, floggers, restraints, rope, really anything you can think of there's a brilliant craftsperson who would love the business.

My guess.. some would still consider it a splurge if it was the "Strong" chu hai......:p:p

Not much anymore but back in my heyday it was Shoes, leather jackets/coats and shoes
