I'll probably get more jokes than real answers, haha, but most of us have had to entertain visitors to Tokyo.

If your early to mid-20s sister, daughter, or cousin and her friend were visiting Tokyo, what would you recommend they do? Any notable experiences where you recommended something and it turned out well or poorly?

beside the usual tourist places like tsukiji market, asakusa, kamakura ... I think they may like the beach atmosphere in Japan

Thrifting in the harajuku Chicago for second hand yukatas as a souvenir. Not only do they get the joy of a yukata, but also the fun of thrift shopping!

Kamakura and Nikko are my favourites. Walking from the station to the big Buddha is fun...have to admit that it's a lot more to walk in the winter...

If they have not arrived yet, you may want to have them get an International Drivers License before they get here and take the Mario Cart tour-looks fun!:

Be careful, you need the valid driver license for driving Japan: Japanese Driver License or International Driver Permit with the passport and SOFA License for USFJ or Japanese Transration(only for Switzerland, Germany, France, Taiwan, Belgium, Slovenia, Monaco) is needed. Please check here..

Check out my recommendations post #5, as well as others:

The Nokogiriyama Buddha and others-mine is the first post with pics. It's a bit hot now but I went on one of the hottest days in August of that year:

Thanks @roots reggae, Nokogiriyama Buddha needs to be on my list as well, I didn't know about it, the photos looking stunning

You will not regret it. However, if you go this time of the year, as I did, plan well. It's not too far a trip from Tokyo.

My family, wife and two sons, went. My youngest was about four years old and my oldest was about seven. I carried the youngest a good deal of the time, even with my bad knees, but the oldest had no problems.

Take ice cold drinks. There is a small restaurant on the way with ice cream and drinks. If I recall, there are drink dispensers on the hike up.

Thank you for your comments on the photos. I reduced them in size. The originals are stunning. That's my wife and son praying in front of the Buddha. So, if my youngest could make the hike I took many photos so be aware that there's lots more when it comes to scenic views.

Please let us know if you go and what you thought.

Depends on the time of year, too. cherry blossoms, momiji, the various summer festivals out there. One of my favorite Japanese gardens is right next to Tokyo Dome - Koishikawa Korakuen. Wander around shopping streets (shotengai), especially Ameyoko near Ueno station. Go out drinking at a izakaya and talk to some Japanese people. Or go drinking in Golden Gai.

Thanks again. Clubbing and shopping were most fun for them. Shibuya 109 and Lumine EST in Shinjuku were good.

They weren't that excited by cultural activities but they also enjoyed karaoke, tea ceremony, sushi, udon, teppanyaki, monster ice, etc.

Haha, I guess it is called Ice Monster. It's on Omotesando with a pop-up store in Midtown. Shaved ice.

I waited 30 minutes in line for them for that, but they didn't eat anything when I took them to the Japanese flavored ice cream shop in Ebisu.

Sunshine City in Ikebukuro is a great idea. All kinds of stuff to do. Some very Japanese, Some not.

I never understand people that come to Japan and don't do cultural things... Like you can go shopping and clubbing back home. I don't know just a thought
