It’s possible - it happens with older Japanese women, cougar types. Rare, but it can happen.
The difficult part for you is that you won’t find them easily without being in japan or speaking some form of Japanes.

The rich ones will be at places in Ginza/Nihonbashi. I’ve heard of random pick ups in Golden Gai.

In all honesty, you'll find that it's MUCH more likely to find young foreign men being kept in sugar relationships by older Japanese men. If you swing that way, that's where you're more likely to have some luck.

Ooooh... yeah, this is true. I just assumed he wanted women only. But, here’s plan b.
There was a gay man here a while ago (Teddi) who asked about sugaring, and he also reported back that he did not get lucky in receiving any money although he had lots of fun free encounters in 2chome.
So I wouldn’t say that is a safe bet if you need money either.
What are some good bars that they go to in Ginza?
I’m not sure about the gay thing, I don’t think I would mind if it was just hanging out and chatting or dinners

I don't really drink; so it's not my scene (bars in general) personally. Others here may have some input or suggestions.
Ginza is crowded with little bars that are very cozy. Again, you're going to need some Japanese to function once you get inside. (In some cases, IF you can get inside.) There are some member's only bars around there.

This topic made me think of these posters that I've seen posted up around town - they basically say "Looking for men to assist beautiful, wealthy older ladies - earn BIG BUXXX".
I always wondered what the scam behind those was so I did a quick search and this came up:

Long and short of it the guy writing the article actually called the service up and got the run-down. They charge 30,000 yen to send you several profiles of women who are ostensibly looking for guys to go shopping with them, go drinking with them, etc. Then you just link up with whatever women strike your fancy and they pay you directly for your time and/or services rendered.
Basically it's just a way to separate morons from 30,000 yen, which is kind of a let down. I was always hoping it was some kind of deeply sketchy, byzantine long con.
So OP, watch your back out there.

About ten years ago, I had a short ''relationship' with a woman in her mid-fifties. She was still very beautiful, did ballet twice a week, etc, and was the wealthiest person I have met in Japan. Married to a large family business owner, she had a house in Bel Air where she spent half the year, and a home in Toranomon. She travelled a lot and had a pilot's licence. I was never allowed to pay for anything, and although I wasn't given cash, it was offered, as were gifts and holidays to the Caribbean. Trouble was, her inner unhappiness was too difficult for me to ignore and I had to break it off. What an idiot!
So these women definitely do exist.

You can make friends with a lot of old ladies at a ballroom dancing studio. There are quite a few in Tokyo.
Would generally need a proper visa if the bar employs them.

I know a guy who used to be a gigalo in Hawaii. On paper he worked at a bar - but the bar owner was an older Japanese lady who would farm him out to visiting wealthy Japanese women.
He had kind of an exotic, mixed-race look and a body like something you see on the cover of Men's Health magazine. He was also nearly a pro at social dance.

Reality is most hosts make minimum wage. It's not like you see in all those documentaries on YouTube. You're technically just a waiter and as others mentioned for that you can't get a visa. So you need a spouse visa, PR or already have a work visa (might get problems with that with immigration)
Once you have a spouse visa or PR your best bet is to start your own eikaiwa. Make a professional brochure and target rich women only. Draw them in with english lessons, seduce them, then take it from there. Learn nanpa, dress up, study where the rich people hang out and give them your business card etc.
Unless you're good looking and fluent in japanese it's going to be very hard to pull off and unlike western people japanese don't really show off their wealth so finding your target audience is really hard for someone fresh off the boat.
