Has anyone else ever wondered about these love hotels you'll find around highway interchanges, even way out in the countryside? What kind of customers are they for? It's such a common pattern that there's obviously a reason for building them there. But are there really enough people just passing by, deciding to stop for a "rest" or stay the night, that they stay in business?

Dude, that's where the people in the boondocks go to smash. The point is they are in the countryside where they can serve several villages. Easy access from the highway and all that.

They also at least used to be way more creative than the ones in Tokyo proper. Bigger rooms, bigger bathrooms and cheaper prices. What's there not to like?

Not really sure, but a remote love hotel seems sensible for people engaging in affairs.

Never noticed the number of Japanese women on dating sites that list "going for a drive" as an enjoyed activity?

In addition to what has been said, these hotels are in locations away from prying eyes. If you are taking a married woman, she doesn't want to be seen. A friend told me. :D

I heard a LH was initially called a "motel" in Japan, intended to serve the same client base as in the US. That may be one reason why there are many LHs around an IC of the old highways (like Gotenba of the Tomei). The Japanese quickly found out that those "motels" provided ideal private space for intimacy. Even in rural areas, Japanese towns used to be very crowded (many of those towns are depopulated by now) and couples needed to escape from the curious eyes of friends, families, siblings, and neighbors. You can drive into a typical rural LH indoor garage, and the garage is connected to the room. You don't have to see anyone, and you are unlikely to be seen by anyone. Like many LHs in Tokyo, those rural LHs are disappearing, often converted to regular hotels or backpackers' inns.

Where else you gonna go after taking the interns out for a round of golf? It can be s long drive and needs breaking up.

Reminds me of a love hotel somewhere in the Kanagawa/Shizuoka borderlands actually called "Hotel Golf"! Must have been 15 years ago, but I'm sure it's still there.

Sounds like an activity I'd enjoy too! Apart from the getting stuck for 2 hours in traffic on the way home...

I have nothing against getting sucked for two hours on the way home...

I think I saw it driving through Gotemba. It could be better called "The 19th hole". :ROFLMAO:

It's still there. Drove by it a couple of weeks ago.

Often those rural love hotels in addition to having direct room entrances from the garage, also have a pneumatic tube system to the office to handle payment and similar. You really don't have to be near another human being except the one you're banging at any time in the process.

One of the youtube haikyo channels had a video of a visit to one of these types sometime in the last 6 months.

I wouldn't be so sure that this system isn't also used for some (auto-)erotic actions.

Alright, now payment by pneumatic tube system is definitely something to experience once before they go completely extinct! Wish that was available as a search criteria on happyhotel for filtering. Don't think I've seen one of those since the 90'ies.

Do you follow any of the haikyo channels on YouTube? Recently one explored a love hotel that had been relatively recently abandoned and had a pneumatic system. They were trying to build suspense making you guess what it was but I instantly knew as soon as I saw it.

Have to agree with the great golf day out.
A round with a hot young thing who hits 120, thus making you look good at golf. Then skipping the Ofuro and heading down to the LH for the after match function is one of the best days you can have in Japan. The IC LH are best cos they are generally modern, have a jacuzzi bath, and usually a denma. My favorite one actually provides a condom for the denma for hygiene reasons.

Next challenge, a three-way!

BTW it's getting a bit colder but once you get to November, Golf in Japan is cheap as chips.

Played what I would rank as a 5 star course last week and it cost 8,500yen incl lunch, cart, everything.

I don't but I will now!
