Hey! I went to the Japan AV Open in Tokyo last month. I wanted to write about this a lot sooner, but I have been very busy over the last month. A ticket was available for purchase at the door, but was a little more expensive. 3,500円 instead of 3,000, so not a significant price difference.
Don't mind the apple remote, please. It's covering a bar code. Anyway, ticket available is plentiful in many locations. DVD stores, book stores, Lawsons, etc. I went to the event on a Friday, hoping I would avoid the huge crowds that these events attract. I made sure to bring a camera apart from my phone's camera. I didn't arrive as early as I wanted (12pm-ish), but it didn't matter. As I recall, there was a list of schedule events, little games to play, and different AV girls coming to replace the ones who had arrived earlier. The website has somewhat decent directions to find the building.
After entering the building, I saw many booths for the bigger name AV movie makers of Japan. Like Maxing and Prestige and a lot more that I never even heard of before. I think it was odd how many women brought babies with them. It was only about 2 or 3, but even 1 seemed to be too many to me. Of course, they are girl on display for picture taking, advertising the products of there company.
You would not believe how many free handouts and samples they had! I walked away with so much stuff that were free samples!
There was so much merchandise for sale, too. The department store Lamtarra made an appearance sponsoring girls in a recent film. Specifically, Arisa Misato 美里有紗! https://twitter.com/misato_arisa
I even took a couple pictures with her! Don't worry, I won't upload a lame picture of me.
Misato is on the left, but I forgot the name of the girl on the right. If somebody want to tell me, that would be great. To get this photo of her, I had to purchase her film though.

Both girls did sign the package art for me! Surprisely, they both knew how to write my name in katakana. Once Chika Arimura signed a photo of me, but I had to show how to write my name.
Of course, I took photos of more girls. About an hour into my time there, an award show started. The crowd at the event must have doubled around that time. I even saw a few males actors that I recognized. I didn't expect to recognize male cast, but this guy is fairly distinctive by his gray hair.
After about an hour, I couldn't help, but notice how BORED I was. Seriously! I was so bored. A coworker said he would come with me, but last minute couldn't make it. Still, it just wasn't that interesting. Wall-to-wall over crowding of people, lots of product placement, dvds and sex toys for sales. Unfortunately for me, that just wasn't interesting. I really tried to enjoy it. I played a couple games, picked up some merchandise, talked to some of the girls and took picture.
Anyone know her name? She told me, but I totally forgot.
They were all so amazed that I could speak Japanese. Seriously, it is not that special. Every time a girl is surprised by that (which is all the time), it really just annoys me. Plenty of foreigners have studied Japanese. Rant complete.
Unless I have no plans at the time of the next event, I probably would not be interested in going again. It wasn't bad, but it is just one of the many events in Japan where they sell merchandise to nerds. I'm not saying I am not completely a nerd. I guess I am just a different type of nerd that doesn't enjoy this type of thing. I thought I would have more fun. I didn't go the next day and maybe I missed out, but I am willing to accept that risk. Oh well.
Anyway, thank you for reading this! I really appreciate it. Maybe you might have more fun. I was not the only foreigner there. Maybe you went, too, tell me about it. Post in the comments. Have fun out there.
