Narrative of the Encounter:
On the same day I went to the local strip theater (see my other review), I decided to check the local porn movie theater.

My main motivation has been to try to visit as many as I can whenever I have some free time and before they all go out of business (what's going to happen for most of them).

The porn movie theater is located almost right across the street from Kokura train station. The street is tiny and has that old Japanese redlight district vibe I like.

The theater is divided in two floors: the first floor has regular porn movies screenings while the second floors will show gay porn.
Once you buy ticket for one floor, they'll offer you a discount to go up or down to the 1st or 2nd floor and not have to pay again for another ticket.

On the day of my visit, the theater was actually mostly empty, with the exceptions of a couple of old people that must have been there when the theater was built

Even though I'm heterosexual, I decided to check the 2nd floor too. I guess the place must be used as a cruising space for some members of the local gay community.
There was one old guy there and we chatted for a bit. He did confirm what I just wrote and told me that the place was really popular back in the 1990s, at a time when internet hadn't become yet the easiest way to meet people. He complimented me on my curiosity and my "courage" to which I replied that being sure about what I liked sexually, I knew that there was very (veeeeerrry) little chance that I will discover myself gay after a visit to a porn theater  and that so far no one had usually jumped on me when I had visited these kind of places.

Review Independence: Was this review requested by the provider or service?:
No, this review was written without a request from the service or their provider.

Final Thoughts:
Recommended, May Repeat.

Closing Comments:
I wouldn't say that visiting these kind of places is a must do.

However for anyone living in Japan and having an interest in the B-side/quirky Japan, this is actually something to see, at least once in a while.

I'm from Kokura and always saw that sketchy part of the road near the station growing up but never went in any of the shops. It's nice to see a review writing about them.

Thanks for the comment.
I love this city. I unfortunately don't get to go very often but it's always a pleasure to be back!

I googled where about this is. Don’t think I’ll ever be in the area probably 😅

Well If my work wasn't bringing me to various cities in Japan, I guess I'd probably slow down on my exploration of pink theaters, strip clubs and so on

You’re lucky, those few raunchy small city places always look so irresistible.
Sadly I do most small city trips with relatives or other people who are not up for adventures like that, and as a white woman some places might not accommodate anyway (although strip clubs or movie theaters may be fine because I have not been rejected at any in Tokyo at least, not sure if small towns would be more hesitant).

We're on the same page on this. Some of these places are remains of the old world sex industry. I have an appeal for old strip clubs, movie theaters and decaying love hotels. They will be all gone sooner than later

To my opinion, strip club are perfectly fine as a single woman, I'd say anywhere. I was actually at the Toyo theater in Osaka about three weeks ago with a girlfriend of mine (who's in the industry but still).

I'd be more careful when it comes to movie theaters as you might quickly be surrounded by a dozen of older Japanese men, no matter if you come alone or as a couple. I've seen some couples in movie theaters and I must say that people were respectful but still very very close to them.

When I get in, I usually don't stay that long. I like to look at the old posters, signs, etc, while wondering around the buildings. If someone is around, I usually have a quick chat and half of the time, these people happened to be regular for years, providing me with quite a lot of infos on the place.

Oh yes, absolutely.
I dread the day that soaplands, incall health places, old style love hotels and all that will be gone.
And sadly everything just moves online nowadays which is practical but not aesthetic for the surroundings.

Yeah that makes sense. I guess there are plenty of female fans of the dancers overall.

Haha I don’t really mind that vibe, going to a konyoku onsen was one of the hottest things I’ve done in my life. But yeah it’s probably safer to not go alone, haha.

That sounds cool. I really should dive more into those places, there are several in Tokyo I haven’t been yet, but it’s nerve wrecking to enter, haha.
