I recently had a visitor from outside of Tokyo. She is living somewhere in Inaga Japan. I was lucky enough to accompany her for two days travelling around Tokyo. This is to share the places and the tips for anyone who is trying to arrange a similar date.

I spent quite a lot of time preparing for the logistics of the trip. These are two days trips with other small restaurants and cafes in between. I am going to only mention the one that I think is worth a visit.

Car share

I don’t own a car. I always use Times Care Share, and recently Nissan e-share mobile specifically to rent a Nissan Leaf. The good thing about this Nissan car share is that there is no monthly fee. I am still searching for a cheap way to rent a Tesla in Tokyo. If anyone knows, please share.

Start off, at Haneda airport.

Ask her to fly into Haneda if possible. It is much easier to access than Narita.

Drive a car, if you can. If you don't have one, rent one. It doesn't matter what type of car it is. Try to see which terminal the plane will land. This will help reduce the walking time and determine which car park is the closest.

Driving will also give you more time with the lady when she is in the car, so you can have a quiet chat just between the two of you. Besides, you don't have to worry about her luggage. The parking cost at the airport is reasonable. If she arrives at night, the night view driving back from Haneda would be really good. If you can detour a bit then I recommend dropping by the foot bath Skydeck

The place is open from 5:30 AM until 11:30 PM every day. I reckon it is much better to be here at night. In the morning there was nobody there. That might be good or bad depending on your lady. The place is free, and at the time I was there, the parking was also free.

Drop by at Toyosu, the new fish market

Depending on your lady, she may or may not be interested in Sushi. If she does, then this is a nice place to drop by from Haneda. You can park the car near the market. It made a nice stop before going back to the city. There is a nice Sushi place in the main market itself which is open from 6 AM until 2 PM. You can also spend some time looking at the view from the garden on the rooftop. Again there was nobody there and it was quite nice to have the big lawn for ourselves.

TeamLab - Planet

https://planets.teamlab.art/tokyo/

This exhibition is a walking distance from Toyosu, or you can drive the car here. Highly recommend bringing a nice camera which can take good pictures in low light. The lighting room was great for dynamic-looking photos when all the lights come up. The flower room was also good for pictures. Wear shorts or pants that are easy to fold up because your feet will be wet in some exhibition. We came here on a weekday so it was not crowded. Plan at least 90 minutes here.

Ad Museum - Shiodome

This one is difficult to find a car park if you drive here. I returned my rental care and came here from TeamLab by Urikamome line. The museum itself is free. You only need to register your visit beforehand. The quality of the exhibition is much better than I expected. If your date can understand Japanese, AND if she likes art and history, try to plan at least 90 - 120 minutes here.

Where life becomes art

Shibuya Sky - Shibuya

They have got a bar at the rooftop with a sofa where you can sit for 50 minutes from April this year until January 2023. It is a bit pricy but it is worth it. The price includes admission to the Shibuya Sky deck itself, where you can stay until around 10:30 PM. Recommend going to the bar after dinner. Choose the last timeslot at 20:30, so you can use the sofa from 21:00 until 21:50 and stay on the rooftop until they are closed. There will be much fewer people from 22:00 onward. It has a really romantic night sky view. So your date will be…. I will leave the rest up for your interpretation.

Yayoi Kusama Museum

https://yayoikusamamuseum.jp/

If your date is into art, and into this kind of art then yes. This is a good visit. The museum itself is in the middle of nowhere. I recommend catching a taxi from a nearby station, or walking if your date likes walking and the weather permits. The museum itself is small. Plan to spend at most about an hour here.

Then you can either walk or catch a taxi to Kagurazaka

Exploring Kagurazaka
There are tons of good restaurants & cafes here. The ones I choose to go to is
  • Lamb Duck Tokyo, my date and I love eating Lamb and Duck which are difficult to find in Tokyo

  • Doughnut Mori, lovely doughnuts and you can support a small business

  • Elm Green coffee, there was no place to sit down at Mori doughnut and this cafe was recommended by the owner of the doughnut place. A nice little cafe with good quality coffee and tea

  • Le Bretagne Creperie, good galette and crepe, nice apple cidre

  • AKHA AMA COFFEE Kagurazaka, is a coffee shop with coffee beans from Thailand. Good with your date who prefers something exotic.
Feel free to contribute in the thread. I would love to hear more about your date plan, if you can share.

So I finally managed to found a reasonable priced Tesla rental.

I decided to rent a model X. It was so fun to drive. Will try model S next time!

Be REALLY careful with Anyca rentals - the biggest gotcha is that if you're late returning the vehicle, the insurance lapses, and you end up driving uninsured - very very important to get them back on time.

Thank you for the warning.
