I got stopped the first time in 3 1/2 years here just 2 months ago. Came home drunk. I think I was working that night too and in dress clothes. Got stopped at my station exiting the ticket gate. The interesting part is this time I made eye contact as I passed him. Usually, I don't. I got stopped this time. He was asking something - I presume my ID. I asked (while smiling) 'why?' in simple Japanese. I asked why he is stopping me - and is it because I'm foreign (again smiling). I was in a pretty jolly mood. Suddenly, a second officer shows up out of nowhere. I wanted to see how far they would push it (had an ex from Kobe who was an officer there). This went on for about 3 minutes or so until I gave them my Signature Visa card as I.D. I tried not to laugh but some came out as I kept a serious face. One officer almost let a smile crack. It was killing me to hold in my laughs as I then gave them my Passimo card with great pride until finally my Lawson Ponta card. At that point, I couldn't hold in my internal laughter anymore and just gave them my ID. But yeah, the one officer was speaking very fast in what seemed to be the tactic they used. I've had real jerk officers back home (at a renowned university campus) who planted lies directly to my face about what I doing; to really nice police (from Chicago's "Cabrini-Green" ghetto- those officers threaten you with their fists) interrogate me and actually dispose of the goods, and this experience here was mild in comparison.
