My friend, I never implied or expressed the view that any news outlet should "lie." Please don't falsely portray my comments. My point involves news coverage and editorial focus.
Once again, an example of that flawed focus of the liberal-dominated Main Stream Media (MSM):
One incident stands out in my mind from Election Night 2016, when a blubbering apparatchik came wandering out of the Javits Center. So, a reporter started asking her questions and this apparatchik started whining about the market being shut down and all of the horrible things that were happening.
The reporter merely encouraged that behavior and probably gave her tissue or maybe chopped an onion to produce more tears. This lady probably didn't know the different between the stock market and the Hunts Point Produce Market. She probably would have parroted the comment if someone muttered darkly about the weakness of the New York Jets' corner backs (it's because Trump won).
An impartial journalist would have asked questions. Oh, you follow the market? Do you like Growth or Income? Are you a momentum player? Do trade options? How did you feel when US markets dropped after President Obama was re-elected?
An impartial journalist would have asked those questions, but the reporter on the scene didn’t. Instead, he or she allowed that apparatchik to blubber on and fuel the victim narrative the MSM was pushing that night.
What's funny is that on election night 2016, I was acting comms director for a big political event and designated media liaison, so I was holed-up in a situation room with a bunch of reporters from both print and tv news. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, was operating on the absolute assumption that Hillary was going to win, and to be honest I don't think anyone was even interested in her race because we were there that night to focus on two very tight federal and state races. The second print-out had come and everyone was glued to the multiple screens, chatting nervously and tapping on their smart phones.
And nobody was even paying attention as Ohio, and then Pennsylvania, and then Michigan (by then I'm starting to notice) and then Wisconsin (by now I've put down my iPhone) all go to Trump and he's solidly ahead in the electoral count. I lean over to the female print reporter next to me, a (very liberal) friend from many past campaigns:
ME: Does that count include CA and NY?
GIRL: (Half ignoring me) Uhhhh...I don't know. Don't think so. Why?
ME: Look at the map! That number counts CA and NY.
GIRL: Huh? So what?
ME: DUMB ASS! TRUMP FUCKING WON!!
GIRL: Whaaat? Shut the fuck up.
At that point I get up and shout at the group, "ASSHOLES! LOOK AT THE MAP!! TRUMP FLIPPED THE ENTIRE FUCKING MIDWEST!! CALI IS DONE. NEW YORK IS DONE. HE WON THE FUCKING ELECTION!!"
What followed was probably two minutes of stunned silence. Everyone was just looking around the room, like someone had just died. And then the reality started setting in live on TV, as national reporters were slowly coming to terms with what had just happened. Most of them couldn't even bring themselves to say it: Trump has won the election.
I look at my friend and all she can mouth is, "WHAT...THE...FUCK???" I was just as stunned, so I stood up and went outside to grab a beer from the open bar. When I came back, I was treated to one of the finest television experiences of my life: Watching weepy, teary-eyed, bitch-ass snowflakes sobbing and wailing at the Clinton election night HQ.
Anyhow, I flew to Osaka the very next day for my usual post-election vacation to catch up with friends and hit the Shinchi just for good measure. It was pure gold being overseas and watching how the rest of the world was having a fucking panic attack. I came home and worked with that liberal reporter friend on a couple of post-election pieces. We had both also just gotten out of relationships and ended up having drunken sex at my condo one night. I'm very bi-partisan.
