I ended up in Kitakyushu last July so I decided to check some of the local attractions, from old porn cinemas to strip theaters.
The A-Class Kokura strip theater had been on my list for a while. These places are usually time travel machines that will bring you straight back to the 1980's.
Kokura is a 30 minutes train ride from Fukuoka (Hakata) main station. This is usually not a place where you's stop unless you'd know people there or wanted to watch one of the most quirky coming of the age ceremony
I went there at around 5.30pm on a steamy hot day, got greeted by a man in his 60s, paid my 6000 yens entrance ticket and went up the stairs to the main room.
For those of you not familiar with these strip theaters, they welcome erotic dancers touring all over Japan, known here as "Odoriko". Some have been doing this job for long and are literally "local celebrities", others are youngsters trying to make a name for themselves.
Needless to say that these places are closing one by one as the years pass by but a few of these theaters seem to be doing ok. Kokura is one of them.
Once in the main room, I could look at all the pictures of the girls touring for the year.
I was as well surprised to see quite a lot of people that had come to attend the performance. It was a mix of older folks, young people and even two couples.
The place itself was much smaller than for example the DX Toji theater in Kyoto so you it gave a more intimate feeling to the whole thing.
The show started right on time with the classic timing: the first girl dances on one song with her clothes on (some are very inventive when it comes to their costumes), then comes back for a second song with less clothes on, before ending up naked (or close) towards the very end.
As the last part of their performance unfolds, they usually perform moves that let you peek at their intimate parts as close as possible, sometimes spreading and so on
Each girl will then usually end the session with a photoshoot. One can come, pay a 1000 yens and leave with a picture of his/her choice of the performer. Some being really popular, you can have a line of around 10/15 people waiting for their pictures.
Some extra cash for them I guess.
Once this is done, the girl will come back on stage for a quick walk around, with people clapping their hands. They'll show their pussy here and there a tiny bit more, get some more tips and then will go backstage.
Overall the girls that were dancing during that month were all quite hot and talented. I stayed for all the performances and I must say that I indeed enjoyed it.

I guess part of the point for a foreigner going to this theater is to experience a bit of the Japanese culture. The places are usually pretty similar to what they were in the 80/90s.
Back in the days, these theaters were extremely popular and these girls could dream about an entire career in this industry.
I would recommend it for someone looking to experience something a bit out of the actual "pure" adult entertainment business. It's a great place to kill time before meeting some friends and almost always an enjoyable experience.
