I'm consider a a few potential hotels for an extended trip in February - Super Hotel Lohas Akasaka, Citadines Shinjuku Tokyo, and Tokyu Stay Shinjuku. Does anyone have a sense of which of these spots are and aren't guest/visitor/girl/escort friendly? Thanks in advance!

All of those have had reported issues in allowing escorts in. Some, as long as you pay for two people, it should be fine.

Do hotels really not let an escort visit unless you pay for two guests? So It doesn't make sense to get a room, knowing this.

If you go to a major hotel chain, 4 star or better, it won’t be a problem. The smaller hotels or business hotels are fairly strict about who can enter. People have sucessfully brought girls in but in a number of cases, the additional visitor who did not pay, is refused entry.

We do have love hotels... if your hotel won’t accept visitors to guest rooms.

The experiences are mixed... but you should have a backup plan.

A number of visiting escorts do incall service at the APA hotel chain. But again, you kinda have to sneak in... some of the APA hotels require room keys to access the elevator.

I’ve been to Super Lohas with no problem but your safest bet is to meet your escort outside and walk in together. If guys are staying with their colleagues this can be risky.

Thanks, guys! A few responses and additional questions...

• I'd be staying alone, i.e. not staying there with any colleagues, if that's what Simonka was asking.

• I have no interest in paying for an extra person. I might have girls over for an hour or two during, say, one-third of the nights of my stay. Other than that, it will just be me.

• TAG Manager, I've heard love hotels can be tough to navigate for folks who don't speak any Japanese? Are there any love hotels that are known to be English friendly? And are escort and escort agencies, including somewhat higher-end ones, typically okay with sending girls to love hotels? If so, I'm not opposed to using them, or at least having them as a back-up plan.

• TAG Manager, I've heard APA hotels can be good for escorts, but I find their reviews are generally "meh" compared to, say, the three hotels I listed above. That aside, are there any APA hotels in good locations that are known to be reliably lenient when it comes to visitors/escorts?

• A few other hotels I've read promising things about include the Hotel Monterey Ginza and the Shinjuku Granbell Hotel. Do these remain visitor/escort friendly?

• Simonka, while I don't want to pay for an extra guest, as mentioned above, I have no problem meeting the girl outside and walking in together. It sounds like, from your experience, I should be fine at Super Lohas, as long as I take that approach, and even if I'm only paying for on person?

Love hotels are the defacto standard in Japan. If a escort refuses a love hotel, then she's not from around these parts and doesn't know how it works in Japan. I would be very curious to see how would reject a LH booking. If you are booking a known escort, she will likely know everything about the LH and can help take care of things. (You usually meet her near the hotel, or at the hotel directly and go in together)

APA's policies are universal. They may or may not stop you, but many of the in-call girls repeatedly use the same hotels without issue. APA hotels are mostly new and quite clean. They are indeed small, but for the price, it's quite reasonable.

Shinjuku Granbell Hotel
This is good choice, I don't recall any problems at this one.

Then I suggest booking an escort and asking her to meet you at the LH of your choice or have her pick one. Just be aware that you could run into a problem at the smaller hotels. It's a possibility, not a fact in each case...

I can’t guarantee you anything as this is just my experience based on a few visits to this particular hotel. :) I usually meet my clients in front of the hotel if the lobby is very tiny and reception is directly facing the entrance. As a tall western women I usually attract the attention of hotel staff, not in a bad way: they probably assume I’m a tourist or business traveler and they’re just trying to help me.
So far I haven’t had any problems walking in together with my clients.
What I tried to say by “colleagues” is sometimes men can stress over being seen with an escort by a colleague and they feel safer by being as discreet as possible.
If you’re not going to meet too many girls you can stay at a more affordable hotel and choose to go to Hotel Pasha which is a modern, spacious love hotel.

Most places you book from will probably encourage love hotels and will even suggest hotels nearby. Love hotels are usually fairly easy to navigate but depending on where you book from the option sometimes exists to meet before going to the hotel so the escort can handle booking the room and you just pay. It's really simple though there is usually a touch screen with available rooms lit up, you can look at pictures of the rooms though any descriptions will be in Japanese only. More expensive usually equals a larger bed, bath and sometimes extras like an area in the bathroom for doing the soapland thing (I forget what it's called) and so on. You can see it all on the pictures though. It's as simple as pushing a couple of buttons and either going to an anonymous window to pay and they'll unlock the door or give you a key. Sometimes it's fully automated so you just go to the room after pushing the button to book it (the room will be lit up in some way showing it's open) and when you enter there is a machine like the ticket machines at stations that you put money into to pay. Just remember to pay lol, If you don't it'll start telling you in an automated message to pay and then staff will call the room asking if there is a problem and they usually have no English.

But in short it's really not that daunting once you get down to it and I personally prefer love hotels, they are often nicer than any hotel rooms or apartments I rent and it's more out the way and anonymous so nobody is nosing at girls I'm bringing there. You can also rent costumes, get food and drink on demand, sing karaoke, play video games and a bunch of other stuff at love hotels. I think it's way more entertaining and zero chance of hassle.

Several people who should know have recommended Shinjuku Granbell on this site. So much so that I've booked it myself, but I haven't been there yet, so I can't really tell you from my own experience.

Yes, it’s mentioned above. It’s a safe choice.

Thank you everyone for your advice!

I've gone ahead and booked the Super Hotel Lohas Akasaka, mainly because there's a deal they're running that made it much more price competitive than the other three or four other hotels I mentioned. Based on what everyone has said, I'm going to at the very least make sure I have a love hotel backup plan for my encounters, or might even make a love hotel my primary plan.

On that note, are there any love hotels folks recommend that are walking distance from the Super Hotel Lohas Akasaka, i.e. in or around Akasaka? Again, preferably ones that are English friendly, though from the helpful descriptions above, it sounds like you don't need much if any language proficiency to get a room at a love hotel.

Many of us prefer them. They are safe and conveniently located. There are a lot that are ok with foreigners. If you enter together with a girl who speaks Japanese there would be zero problems in almost any case. If you enter alone and speak no Japanese at all its maybe half half.
Some are ok and some are not. We have information about that here on TAG. If your hotel room is in Shibuya, Shinjuku or Ikebukuro, there are many love hotel back up options.

APA isn’t great. The rooms are crazy small (love hotels are much nicer) and all that i have been to needed a key card though the staff has never bothered me when going in together with a client.
