Are non Japanese speaking Chinese Americans considered foreigners?

I used to spend quite a bit of time in Kyobashi because the client I visited was there in the Twin 21. I never thought it was anything but a middle-class entertainment district but this was back in the late 80s and early 90s at the end of the Bubble. Granted, it is not Tennoji but it is not up to the tourist-friend areas between Umeda and Namba on the Midosuji line, either. I'm not a Kansai-guy so I don't know the area that well but I did spend a lot of time in Kyobashi and felt it was not that great for good hotel health which is what I frequent.

Well, hate to make you feel old but I missed you by about a decade. I showed up in the early 2000s. But you're right, Kyobashi was never anything special in terms of size or features. I used to refer to it as a "mini Umeda," but that was being generous. For me, however, my very first office was right outside the station and for those of us who lived and worked along the Keihan Line, Kyobashi was the main hub to connect with the main districts of Osaka. There were--and still are--a ton of low-end, not particularly pleasant tame P4P options but when you're 23, broke and extremely drunk, you take what you can get. In my time there were also a lot of Filipino hostess clubs on the JR side of the station, as well as some shady FS places all the way down the last street heading toward the main highway and Miyakojima. And some of my favorite "comfort" places were right along the route you would've taken if you were heading to Twin 21. You know the path outside the station that heads back toward the bridge to Daiei; the 2-story Doutour shop next to McDonald's, then the Wendy's in the annex going past the 2F main entrance to Daiei; and wear I bought 99% of the shit in my apartment, as well as all the beer and food every year for the hanami parties at Osaka-jo, at that very Daiei.

Bit of trivia for you, remember that Crystal Tower right next to Twin 21? And right next to it was this sorta municipal processing plant right at the edge of the island? That very area, as well as the area of the park right across the bridge and along the waterfront, was used to film all sorts of underground fetish porn movies. I stumbled upon a number of what I think were set-ups for porn shoots during random walks alone on the weekend, and then I recognized the geography in a number of random porn clips I saw on random porn sites. Fake rape scenes, exhibitionist type of stuff, piss/shit fetish porn, etc., for whatever reason that area was a popular location. Once, I was bored and killing time on a weekend before meeting my pals in Kyobashi and was just strolling along in the deserted woodsy area around the baseball field, and I happened upon the most bizarre scene: a bunch of guys with laptop computers and a camera, and this squatting woman wearing only her bra who screamed when she saw me. It only occurred to me later exactly what I was seeing. I think this woman was filming some sort of piss scene at the park, and when I stumbled upon the shoot mid-stream she panicked, got up, grabbed her crotch and ended up pissing through her fingers with this look of extreme embarrassment and horror on her face as I stood there staring. The homeboys with her looked fucking furious, however, and one of them got in my face and told me to fuck off. I've met adolescent girls in America more intimidating than your average Japanese male, but something about these guys and their demeanor was different and then I remembered that yaks are heavily invested in this sort of industry, so I politely fucked off with a great story to tell at the izakaya later that night.

Don't worry. I'm old but experienced, too. I remember the Daiei because I used to shop there for general supplies when I was around there. Daiei used to be big stuff back in the day for us before real competition for them put the big hurt on.

That's interesting about the porn shoots along the waterfront. The area must have been protected. Probably not full-fledged yaks you meant, sounds like punk chinpira who were going to get their asses kicked for messing up their shoot. LOL.

Like I said, I'm a Kanto guy who used to do some business in Kansai. Your stories are priceless. Keep 'em coming.
