Are there any JAV conventions, like AVN, where fans can meet JAV idols?

I'm planning my next trip to Japan, and I was wondering if there were any big JAV conventions open to foreigners, like the AVN Expo in America, where fans can meet their favorite JAV idols?

Pick up any photo magazine in Japan and check the ads in the back. There are several studios around Tokyo that offer these types of photos sessions with a variety of Japanese models and AV stars. Usually these are in 40-45 minute blocks and you can take photos with your digital camera (not your phone) and you can also take video (for an additional fee). Poses are up to the participant, as long as the model is ok with it.
No touching is allowed during the sessions and you are not allowed to post the photos online.

If the model really likes your work, you can send them images by mailing a usb drive to the studio and sometimes they’ll post it on their twitter or IG accounts.

Prices range anywhere between $130 to $400 per session, depending on the popularity of the model.

I really prefer meeting JAV stars this way as opposed to a crowded and noisy convention. It’s fun and a great way to up your Japanese language and photography skills at the same time.

If simply meet&greet is all you look for, then check out AV Event.
They usually run those with single actresses to promote new JAVs with them (obv if it's a 3P vid or similar you might expect more than one on the venue) or anniversaries. What you might expect can vary between events but it's more or less book signing but for porn, so chances of any body touch are slim to none. Usually it's one or multiple of:
  • getting a signed copy of the DVD they're promoting
  • getting a short personalised message written
  • exchanging a few words with the AV actress
  • individual photos with you and the actress or the actress only
  • group photo sessions where the crowd requests poses for the actress to do
  • interview sessions

Individual meet 'n' greets are extremely common. Just follow the girls on Twitter and you'll probably see some eventually.

If AV girls aren't actively filming then they're doing appearances, meet 'n' greets or (in some cases) stripping. It's their daily hustle in how they make a living.
 
You have av-event.jp as Nostro mentioned.
The process is quite simple as you go to the listed store and buy the specific title. You can get more benefits by buying multiple titles (from the same creator) which can give you 10sec extra shooting time and get one or two pictures together on your phone or on a Polaroid. Benefits are usually extended shooting time or getting one or two pictures together.

Some events could let you hug or hold hands with the actress if you bought one or two DvDs extra. Some would even take a step further and lick a lollipop near your ear or near your crotch etc. The ultimate blue ball teasing. Sadly this might not happen again in years as they dropped that ever since corona started and they still require you to wear a mask and keep a plastic wall between you and the actress.
Even so, you can get nice pictures and have a fun conversation and she might remember you next time you meet.

On either Twitter or an FC some actresses might announce an ofukai where you together with other fans spend time together to chat, drink, eat and play games, and sometimes karaoke, (don't expect anything erotic). Whether you think it's worth it or not is up to you as they are pretty costly and can cost between 30k to 60k yen and it usually isn't longer than 90 min to a couple of hours. There are many other fans who also goes there so there so don't expect many chances to talk your heart out.

They removed the plastic wall already, mask is still a requirement for you though.

This days the most is an arm hug, very rarely anything more…
Miss the days when Shinomiya Yuri went “AHH ITS xxxxx” and jumped me…

As for offkais, usually only for locals, prepayment is required via bank transfers only.
