511 in Akasaka-Mitsuke is my go to steak / Japanese experience for foreign visitors .. It's not low cost ...But Dayum it's tasty. . 2 peeps + bottle of wine is about ¥40,000 depending on the course u opt for .

I found it to be an interesting concept when I went there - steak “kaiseki” - but other than the steak preparations itself (and the lobster) it felt a bit lacking in depth

Yeah that place is great. Very casual but a fun atmosphere. Everyone always loves it when I take them there.

Yeah guests like it as its japanese food but huge portions and nothing too exotic. I think its a bit overrated (every gaijin I know seems to love it) but the atmosphere is usually good.

PSA : gonpachi is shit. Prior to this thread the only people Id ever known think it is good are trailing spouses or people thatve been in japan less than a month. Its over-priced, shit service and about the same quality as a budget chain izakaya like wara-wara.
