BookOff

Generally you bring whatever you have in, they take it and give you a number and ask you to wait while they go through and figure out whatever you brought in is worth. They call your number, tell you what the value is, what they will take and what they won't. Then you decide to agree to sell or not. If you agree to sell you have to fill out a form with your personal information.

Don't get your hopes up on the prices though. English books go usually from 10 to 100 yens so better cancel those escorts you got lined up in waiting for the pay-up.

Any electrical stuff is usually one fourth of the price they sell it there and they usually sell cheap.

And printers without ink, you'll get ¥100.

If you're offloading books, you'll do better to deal with Infinity books.

They'll give you more for them than Book Off, and if you're a big reader, you'll get even more in store credit, and they have a very good selection.

You don't even need to go over there, they'll do it all by courier if you want.

Book Off is basically recycling not a way to make money. You might only get 10 yen a book.

Agreed. Bookoff is where you can dump your books/CDs/DVDs for free. If you can register your personal info at this page in Japanese, all you have to do is to put books etc. into a carton which is to be collected by them. You are paid some hundred yen if they find something valuable. I dumped two large cartons of books this way at the end of my last long stay in Japan.

HardOff? Is that when someone gives you a happy ending?

More like when the chinese massaji girl pulls the bait and switch and granny comes trotting over....

I do actually have a meishi from a guy at Hard Off, it was a bit of a faux pas because at the time I wasn't aware they'd booked off from Book Off. Apparently they were opening stores in Hawaii, so there may be opportunities for American members to check out a Hard Off.

One day I imagine they might team up with a Masayoshi Son enterprise, enabling you to get a Soft Bank at a Hard Off.
