Calling In Japan

Hi all,
New to Japan and a quick question about cell phones. I met a girl the other night and we exchanged numbers. She called me from her phone in fact.
When I attempted to call her back by pressing on her number in my call log, it seems to not work. I just get a message from the telecom agency in Japanese which I don't understand.
Any ideas? She was really cute and we talked about meeting tonight so it's a bit frustrating. Btw, mine is an American number and hers is Japanese number. Thanks.
