Best tip I can give you: make sure you book all your hotel reservations through a site that allows free cancellations (like Booking.com) because prices are going to fluctuate wildly and, due to the pandemic pricing, you will probably be able to score a significant discount this year. Book a room with free cancellation, then monitor prices over the next few months, cancelling and re-booking when the prices fall. Saved myself over a grand on this last trip.

Also, P4P will undoubtedly be difficult for the foreseeable future for foreigners and especially foreigners who can't speak Japanese. The virus stigma will be around for at least another year. Your best bet will be venues in Tokyo. Do not limit your trip to asscracks like Osaka, Kyoto or any other smaller city anywhere else.
