Discreet AV job search through staffing agencies?

I have had experience going to some local staffing agencies that usually find English teaching, company type work for foreigners. Of course, I have never mentioned that I'm looking for AV gigs because there are probably other staffing agencies that search for AV gigs exclusively for foreigners here in Japan?

There is a really famous company called Hello Work that I have been to a couple of times to look for teaching work. I assume if I mention I'm looking to be in AV, they will most likely tell me that isn't the type of work they find for people right?

I also worry about my wife somehow being notified that her husband is doing AV or received an offer for an AV gig? I obviously would not provide her cell phone as a contact, but if I have to by law list my registered address and home phone, could she receive word about it? My wife probably wouldn't care if I sat down and explained, but like most Japanese that do AV, I think it might be best to keep it to myself as a side job once in a while.

Hello Work, the Japanese government's employment assistance agency, and most registered temp firms, have a huge amount of red tape to get through even with mainstream jobs.

Get innovative and make contact with the production companies if it's something you're interested in. That JAV expo other TAG members have been talking about recently would be another good way to test the potential market out there if you could network with production company folks there too.

From what I've seen there's casting calls for that sort of thing, and once you become a relatively dependable guy you get called back for other things. I certainly would doubt there's any specific staffing agency, much less agencIES searching for foreigners for AV gigs.

I doubt that they would pass information along to your spouse, unless you use her as a reference or if you are being an asshat to them for some reason.

Well I did a search on JAV expo and there are videos dating across different times of the year...so this is not just an annual event?

To any of the foreigners on here that have attended JAV expos...are they friendly and open to foreigners interested in maybe being involved or do they have the same "Japanese only" vibe that you notice at certain Soaplands/Pink Salons, etc?

There's a thread or two on TAG about people's experiences at the Expo. It's a place for fans to meet JAV idols, not really a work conference where you can really network.

Yeah, I went there a few weeks ago. There WERE a few directors there like Tohjiro personally representing Dogma. I know sometimes he has foreign dudes in his films, so I suppose you could at least get in with him there.

I also do remember seeing a booth there for people interested in becoming an actor or actress. So definitely worth giving a shot I'd say.

The event is not annual right? It seems to be held more than once a year, but I have no idea.

If you are worried that the production company would call your house and accidentally alert your wife, then what about when the AV starts to circulate and a friend or acquaintance see it and starts talking?

Plus, what about at tax time and you have to report income?

Actually, what is strange is that I was talking to my wife about taking part time modeling work like I did once in a while when I lived in Shanghai and she just blurted out "just do porn it pays better". She was laughing but she told me she was being serious. I was shocked, but I told her that if it is alright with her I would try and she said we need the money. So that is the situation now haha.
