The scams are insane right now. Like I don’t even bother with those apps because of the horror stories I’ve read here.

I double down on @MikeH ’s advice: Tokyo being too far away I can get, but Kyoto and Osaka are right next to each other; if you don’t have the 4 or so hours it takes to crawl in the Shinchi, into a hot Japanese pussy, then back to Kyoto I have to wonder what kind of magic you could pull on a dating app for faster access.

Great, so it seems you already found the reason for the recommendation to go to Tokyo.

Unfortunately, almost all establishments in Kyoto and Osaka won't let you in without being able to speak conversational Japanese. And that's if they even let you in for not looking Japanese.

Your best options are Tobita Shinchi or Matsushima Shinchi, as they almost always accept foreigners, and if you're in a real time crunch, you'll get the most bang for your buck

There's plenty of reviews for Tobita right now (I've been contributing by scoping out the Osaka areas), so if you can spare 3 hours in an afternoon or evening, I'd go with there

I don't trust Hyperdia ever since they neutered the service. But just to point out for OP, IIRC, the JR Thunderbird from JR Kyoto to JR Osaka will be only a few minutes longer than the Shinkansen and probably half the price. I swear that fucker used to get me from Kyoto back to Osaka in less than 20 minutes.
