To each his or her own. "much better" is very subjective, especially in JAV and porn in general.

Right, I think it's much harder for a western-looking gaijin to break into the Japanese market than for an Asian-looking girl to break into the American one...

I wouldn't say its THAT difficult.
Gaijin who own the right visa are not so common, which is a main problem.

Of course foreigners are not fit for all movies but "the token foreigner" is a pretty common role in the entertainment industry.

Asa Akira in one interview said that there is always a mandatory Asian girl nowadays in every porn made in USA. And that "it has worked out pretty well for me".

Yes, as long as you fit a stereotype or find your niche, but it's not necessarily breaking into the system... I mean more like becoming a bonafide star: think about someone like Asa Akira, who's one of the biggest names of the industry.
