Hey guys,

I know a lot of you here watch JAV because Japan has some of the best porn around (and easy to access).
You get idol/model quality AV stars here because there isn't as much social stigma towards being a porn star here as there is in some other countries. (Note: I said NOT AS MUCH. Being a porn star will still cut you off from a lot of jobs in Japan. "セクシー女優” my ass.) Many girls/ex-models go into AV to earn good money and the amount of sex some of them have (releasing multiple DVDs a month) on camera can get ridiculous sometimes (仁科百華、澁谷果歩、etc.)

Anyway, I know this is something that divides a lot of foreigners when watching AV, but why is it do you think a lot of the women in JAV moan so loud? Is this natural to a lot of Japanese women? Is it something directors are instructing them to do because they need to express how good the sex feels? Are the male stars so good at sex that no women could help but scream when getting banged by them?

I personally enjoy 95% of the AV style screaming I see. It helps to add excitement and ecstasy to the imagery, especially when I see one of my favorite actresses getting plowed. There is a rare case every now and then when the moaning sounds way too weird (like a sheep baa-ing, etc.) I do find the girlss with anime-style voices to also be enticing.

I know that a lot of normal girls moan gently in bed, which is also hot in its own way. I appreciate it, though, when a woman will sync up her moaning to my orgasm so the intensity of the moment is amplified.

Most mainstream (or vanilla anyway) JAV seems to deal with themes of losing one's innocence, where men control a woman and make her feel things she wasn't expecting to feel until she's overcome with passion and orgasms. For the most part the noise making doesn't really do much for me. I watch it for the 'eye candy' of a stunning young woman having sex -- probably my favorite actress is Yua Aida who very rarely gave in to the trope and was almost dominant in a large number of her scenes.

I think it's up to directors/producers. Most of them prefer JAV-style moan, but there are "realist" sort of JAVs, too, where typically you can see the actor, Hanaoka Jitta, in action.

I don't see much porn, but that is also my impression.

The women usually don't appear to be enjoying themselves or even participating much, basically just having things done to them in the examples I've seen. In addition, the pixelated genitalia are distracting and silly looking; the audio track is often irritating or worse.

Personally when I watch JAV I mute the sound entirely. The "moaning" sounds more like a tortured chihuahua to me than a sound a human being in the throws of passion would make.

I think what @meiji and @roots reggae said here are essentially related. Functionally all Japanese visual drama is melodrama (see also the writings of Donald Richie on this subject). Any culture's visual storytelling style will reflect the expectations of the culture, their specific cultural tropes (as @meiji wrote).

Which is to say that since the melodramatic tortured chihuahua sound is expected, that is what JAV actresses will deliver and since that is what is done on screen that is what viewers come to expect and the circle re-enforces itself forever.

Well, poking fun at meiji does give a bit of rebellious satisfaction, however, I feel confident that meiji knows the meaning of many big words. And... any such attempt at mirth is always good-natured. Meiji truly has my utmost respect for the significant contributions he,and as well as the other moderators, make every single day.

Actually, my university studies concentrated on literary analysis, literary criticism, and literary theory. A bit tongue in cheek, but my post was a serious attempt at analyzing the phenomena of moaning by JAV actresses. Really!!!

Traveling from one place to another, it seemed that its a common thing for providers. Its either Western Style Porn Moaning or the JAV being ravaged and in indescribable pain moaning.
