It's mainly a marketing tactic to make it seem like she's a 新人 (rookie) new to AV scene when in fact she's already a veteran.
New girls are more popular in general because guys want to see their stuff and how their innocence is lost on camera.

It's usually done when an AV star leaves AV for a short while and comes back. They want this extra boost of popularity.
The same goes if the AV star is in a bad rut and really wants to boost her career.

An example of this is the busty and lovel Utsunomiya Shion, who is now back as Rion. She also models professionally under a different name.
(Anzai Kira, or something like that)

There are more minor reasons like the girl changing agencies, contactual situations, bad press associated with the previuos name,
but it's all just a marketing tactic in the end.

Then why do a lot of guys complain because they feel insecure?

Then you should talk about your girth because a girl saying is to big is generally because of the girth. Im 20cm and I only once in my life had a girl tell me its too big.
