I'm back in Japan multiple times a year (although this coronavirus might change that) but in all my years, Hamamatsu has been nothing more than a stop on the Shinkansen for me. On my trips from Tokyo back to Osaka to see friends, Hamamatsu or Toyohashi are my warning bells/reminders that I should have gotten a decent buzz on by then and should try to sleep so I can get an hour of shut-eye to sober up. But I suppose it wouldn't hurt to get off the train once and take a look around?

Years back, while still in college, I used to pick up copies of surf magazines at the airport on the way to school because they always had those "swimsuit specials" tucked into the cellophane.
