Title says it all.

Have you? And if so how did you know they were legit members?

Yes.

Evidence includes extensive tats, missing finger tips and the context/situation in which I encountered them.

They aren't particularly low profile or even easy to avoid in some places and activities.

I hope the link works. I have mostly met them in civilian situations and then it has always been fine. In the sticks, if you head out a lot at night, you're bound to run into some and mostly they introduced themselves and their profession in a fairly matter of fact way. For a long time in cities and everywhere more recently, they tend to have become more discrete as their business models have evolved and the old signs of yore are less visible. You can still tell when these guys sweep into a 5-star hotel lobby though, it's the vibe they give off. Why are you asking?

Yes, but I think the boys in blue are much better bunch to drink with.

In Kabukicho, 2 years ago. I was walking when suddenly there's 2 guys in suit opening the path for a very dandy bossy guy. Those 2 guys were very loud, shouting 'sumimasen' and shooing people on the sidewalk. There's just something about those guys, most passerby and touts immediately gave way to those people. I could feel some scary aura from those people, so I just stop walking and wait until they pass by.

few times actually... the younger ones usually want to beat me up, for no apparent reaso, the older ones do karaoke or drinking with me...

about how you know: they let you know, if they want to... also soeaking pattern is different,..

I used to be a bouncer in roppongi many years ago and I would spot them. One Monday evening this gentleman was rudely escorted out by this asshole of a security from a hostess spot in the same building I was working. I was outside and didn't think anything of it because I see people get thrown out all the time. This black car pulls up with white curtains in the backseat. 2 big Japanese dudes grab the security guy yelling at him telling him what he's doing is a huge mistake. I've never seen anyone do a 180 faster in my life because he went from being an angry security abusing his power in the situation to being completely powerless and bowing and basically begging for his life. They popped the trunk wanting him to voluntarily go in. I'm assuming the owner or manager and 2 other security people had to come out and go down to their knees and beg forgiveness.

Who said the security guy was abusing his power???

Maybe that yakuza was bothering the girls working there and the management thought to throw him out for a reason.

Customers in hostess bars can be ruthless.

Absolutely. I used to live next to a fairly well known senior yakuza. He was an excellent neighbour... like any other person, he wasn't fond of bringing work home with him and preferred to live quietly.

Excellent neighbour? Let me guess, he sorted out the trash?

Unless you mean burnables and unburnables, nope. The only indicators were that he had security guys, and that he had a REALLY nice house in an otherwise super trashy neighborhood.

Well, that and his name occasionally popping up in the news. :)

I know people can be horrible customers but he threw the guy out and started paint brushing him and kicking the yakuza guys leg..

Yes, I had a friend that ran a Delivery Health place in Ikebukuro years ago and I was hanging at his place when they came in for some sort of money thing. I didn't ask as it wasn't any of my business. We all sat down and drank a little and they were very friendly (to me anyways).

One lives close to me. Japanese neighbors say he’s a pretty big deal. Enormous house with a wall around it. Security cameras pointing everywhere. Only saw him once. Gate was open as I walked by one day. He was standing next to a Rolls Royce in his driveway talking with a couple of younger guys. He was old and totally bald. Figured that was him, anyway.

Lots of awesome stories! I have yet to meet some and can confirm it. Just lots of dressed up guys in suits in Shibuya and Shinjuku looking at me sometimes.
