Hi everyone, I’ve never been to Japan but recently I’ve become curious about a topic so I’m hoping to get insight from users who may have Japanese friends in the scene or those close to Japanese girls (sugar babies, soapland girls, etc).

What is the current situation regarding the porn scene in Japan? My ignorance assumed that like the rest of the world, it was on rapid decline since people don’t really pay for porn anymore but I recently watched some tapes and the JAV seems stronger than ever? - thousands of new, beautiful girls debuting every month, high quality production, etc.

On one hand I know how popular idols are in Japan so I assume the JAV industry attracts way more traffic of girls experimenting with 1 or 2 scenes aspiring to be become the next big JAV idol but on the other hand soaplands and escorting seems a lot more secure & stable - it would be a lot more convenient for an 18-23yo university girl to support herself working part time at a soapland or agency a few times a week - so I’m not so sure which one is more popular.

Does the JAV industry tend to attract way more beautiful girls or do soaplands and agencies have just as beautiful but they’re just not available to foreigners?Which industry do you think will dominate in the future?

I am friendly with a current JAV actress. She is not a household name but she has 10-12 titles in her own name and continues to release 1 per month or so. Basically she cannot afford to live on AV alone though she wants to. So she supplements at both soap and deriheru to get by. Long story short the number of actresses who can do well just by doing AV is few indeed. The rest don’t make enough for it to be a living. And yeah - who really pays for porn anymore… That any of these titles can turn a profit is surprising. Even with paying the talent in them so little.

The turnover rate at JAV studios is pretty high, but DMM one of the major distributors of JAV employs more people and makes more revenue than any fuuzoku related company I know.
JAV is pretty successful and is probably here to stay.

I’m totally new to fuzoku, but I would lean towards it still being the winning career path by far. However, JAV is still a positive market.

DMM’s adult video sales is clearly quite good, with weekly top rated ladies getting price reductions with reviews from paying customers. Despite how redundant it might be, there are still plenty of Japanese who like to pay for porn.

Also, in regards to quality, I have met girls in low end soaps who look more appealing than shinjin select with Soft On Demand with the advantage of being shaved, so I’d say they’re the same.

Yeah DMM still distributes porn online and has adult chat and comics and stuff. But this is a rapidly *declining* part of their business. DMMs origins are porn but certainly not its future.
