It's a joke, although sometimes it's a reference to Steve Buscemi's character, Mr. Pink, in the movie "Reservoir Dogs."

He would have liked Japan, for obvious reasons.

anyone knows if this place is still open?

I remember the 1st time I went when I was in Kyoto it took me like 1 hour to find it, I literally asked a middle-aged japanese guy "where is this pink salon" and he walked me there and ringed the door for me. (damn politeness in this country)
also I'm pretty sure the only reason I got in was because they saw a japanese guy with me haha. Good times
