Got another question for the veterans out there in the streets. Been well versed in theory on the whole (Western style) PUA/Nampa, openers, rambling, bait, galnuc, whatever whatever.. been entertaining the thought of doing it althoough there is just one problem. Nihongo levels are almost non-existent.

However on the bright side I'm taking classes throughout the week, so in some time I guess I may be able to ask directions to some obasan and actually be able to understand the response.

SO to get to the point, is it possible to do any sort of pickup without Japanese? What's the strategy for that sort of level of pickup. I'm guessing street game may consist of directions asking, and maybe bookstores and coffee shops are a better sort of thing for this.. ive heard of whipping out google translate before, but I wanna know if any of you guys have any other input. Or do I have to wait 6 months 'til my language level increases before I hit that scene

P.S. I actually tried to talk to a girl in Shinjuku but got ignored, she was already being hit on 100 guys and was drunk-falling-on-the-floor-as-fuck wasted. But it was fun to try. But i gotta say some of these guys are aggressive, literally getting in her way and blocking her path trying to talk to her.. almost felt sorry for the poor drunk

Thanks

Yes, it's possible to use only English, but... And these are major.

1) You have to speak English very slowly and distinctly.

Make your English as easy to understand as possible.

2) Expect a high strike out rate

Lots of Japanese women won't understand you or will pretend they don't understand any English.

3) Add In Japanese

Using the bit of Japanese you do know, can make the difference of her understanding you or being comfortable with you

Shinjuku & Shibuya

Near the JR train station are well known "nampa" areas. It's also full of pushy izakaya people, host club guys, porn & prostitute recruiters, etc...

Consequently, women can be even more paranoid than usual and assume you are a street hustler or con-man type. So you might want to find a better spot where other guys aren't at or accept a higher rejection rate for that area.

These kind of experiences make women wary of normal guys. Well done PUA!

Hard to even know if they were gamers or not. More often than not, its the normal guys who feel they can finally approach when it's a wasted girl or "weak target", so they all swarm. Just like when a guy with balls actually approaches a girl in a club/bar and all the cowardly "normal guys" who were standing by the sides psyching themselves out ("She's not gonna talk to me...") come out of the woodwork to jump into the interaction because they can see she's already talking (and to a foreigner? Must be an easy target!!).

Obnoxious indeed.. Related to PUA? Actually, not really. The opposite really. Actually having game helps guys approach sober girls and make it work when they would have otherwise run up in a horde on every perceived "weak straggler." Alas, "PUA" once again gets the blame

Damn, thats fucked up. a lot of vultures in this town

A lot of vultures that could get a justified rape case against them if this was in the UK too.

If she is so drunk she's falling down drunk and doesn't know what she's doing then she can't consent.

I've noticed this whenever I approached at danceclubs, must get on the girl's nerves when this happens.

This post alone demonstrates your experience. VERY TRUE, quite annoying when weak or cowardly type guys pull this, and I've had similar experiences.

I am not sure what I hate more. When other weak willed guys jump in or when they just stay in the corner moping cause some other guy got to talk to their special snowflake.

Hey Solong,

I'll keep these key notes in mind.

Thanks for the info sir.

The above is an example of how bad behavior intended to get into a woman's pants (swarming a "weak target") is not considered PUA despite the fact that in other contexts it is asserted that PUA is basically anything and everything guys do to try to get sex from women they didn't previously know. I wrote about this conveniently changing definition of PUA in a recent post in some other thread.

Here we go again.. It's not the definition of pickup that has changed. It is people's inability to see that those in this story are NOT guys who are confident in approaching and dedicated to improving. Please check the definitions again, there IS a reason I made those distinctions. I (and @Solong ) have repeatedly tried to separate the noun of PUA / gamer from the verb of pickup / nampa. You do understand that the A stands for "artist," right? Therefore, it is not a verb.

The point of separating this is that MOST of the bad behavior that people on the outside looking in think is "PUAs" is actually normal guys who do pickup (the verb) when they are either (1) drunk or (2) sense a weak target. This is NOT the behavior of a guy who is confident and who does pickup with regularity and method. If a guy is able to approach attractive, sober women all the time, why would he swarm a drunk girl? It just doesn't make sense.

I mean look at OP (not judging you here, man) - why did he feel the need to "try" his first pickup on the only falling-down-drunk girl who was getting approached by hundreds of guys? Because he doesn't have confidence to approach sober/normal girls yet. This is much the same as any random dude on the street who 'sees his chance'. If he continues working on his pickup and applies method as opposed to taking drunken "hail marys" like most guys do, he would be confident and secure enough in his abilities to talk to girls who aren't falling-down-drunk and getting swarmed. This has the double effect of being both more effective and way less creepy.

@OP - to answer your question, yes, I've known lots of guys who pickup solely in English and make it work very very well for themselves. Solong mentioned some really good points, but I'd just like to add you might do pickup in higher class / more international areas like Omotesando, Azabu, Aoyama, Roppongi, Ebisu, etc. There are more likely to be English speakers there.

Some interesting replies for sure. I don't normally approach drunk girls, I noticed she was falling down after i talked to her.. plenty of drunk girls in Shinjuku on a saturday night though. i only talked to one hah. In other news, I tried my hand in Tokyo Hands, no pun intended, saw a couple girls and approached.. talked to this curvy blonde looking at toilet covers and I asked her what they were for.. she was pretty helpful.. but alas the language barrier is a handicap here, maybe i should of tried to get her to show me how to use it too. Had fun with a pair of girls selling tea as well and talked some, but I try not to consider employees as a real approach since they're pretty much obligated to be nice to u.. but in any case i'm having fun approaching little by little, it really gives you a bit of a confidence boost. Though i'm having trouble approaching under 3 seconds, i think i analyze too much. and then there's always those girls who you wanna make a 180 spin for but don't wanna looka lika stalka. I'm going hardball on this solo, and i'm not sure how much easier it would be to approach with a wing or some silly prop, but ah well, practice will make perfect.

anyone in Tokyo up for daygame meetup let me know. :)

Maybe you should put up classified ads here and on Craigslist for wingmen and wingwomen (don't underestimate this possibility).

The 3 second rule is just a guideline. It's there for guys that overthink and hesitate too much. I think it's good for street, because it's often a go for it that moment or she walks away forever. However, I do NOT think it's applicable in train, cafe, or club/bar situations. It can often be better to observe a bit or stand next to the woman for 60 seconds or so. You have to develop more of an experienced understanding of when to go for immediately or when to wait a little bit. And you should know yourself, where you understand the difference between cowardice or patience.

With Japanese women, they tend more towards panic or being easily startled. Allowing them to get comfortable with your physical presence can be the better option at times, but you should be the type of guy thay knows how to do it naturally and not be creepy or excessively stare down a woman.
