I have plans to meet an independent in the lobby of my hotel upon my arrival to Tokyo this week. Are there security issues to be aware of? Legal issues? This is a 5 star hotel if that matters.

Not really. A five star hotel shouldn't pester their guests. Meeting a friend in the lobby is not a crime.

If it's a reputable escort - there shouldn't be a problem.

Just take the usual precautions with valuables, etc.

Thank you all for the insight. Now to be sure I have a made a wise selection of my female companion.

The only concern you would have is if you were staying at a cheap motel where they are really uptight about charging for everyone who stays in your room.
Such places have small lobbies so the front desk can basically check everyone who enters into the elevator.

If it's a 5 star hotel, the lobbies are huge and you're already paying so much for the room that they will not bother to check on your activities unless
it's obvious that something illegal is going on.

I doubt a hotel like that is in the business of bothering the clientèle they get. If they were pestering over every entourage of business colleagues or female companion they entered the hotel with then nobody would want to stay there again and that's bad for business. A crappy place probably has to try to scrape every bit of money they can so they'll be pushy about extra charges and who stays in your room.

ZERO problems meeting in ANY hotel lobby ever! It is beyond common and actually expected.

It's only if she tries to go up to your room that there would possibly be any issue at all and as said above, that would only be in some very cheap hotels.

If she wants to come up to your room to meet you then its done. She absolutely plans to have sex with you and if your lucky you can tag her before you even go out to dinner. Find a non-creepy way to give her a hug and hold on a while, rub her head with your cheek and say some soft things.. Next thing you know the clothes will be flying and she'll be jumping on the bed in her underwear..

OTOH, if you think this "might be the one" and she volunteers to come up to your room to get you having never met you before.. Dude, that horse has been ridden by the entire basketball team. Have your fun and move on. lol.. I promise you, as soon as you leave town she'll be meeting some other dude in his hotel room.

Basically wondering if meeting someone that offers GFE is illegal in Japan? I do not want to end up in jail. Am I over thinking it? I mean I want a companion for the evening dinner etc...

I think you're being overly paranoid......

And I thought I was too paranoid! Very much agreed above. Once in a Beijing Holiday Inn, I had a snafu of two WG's arrive at the hotel at the same time due to communication issues in cancelling one. When one showed up to my room, the call came for the 2nd waiting outside and created a really embarrassing exposure risk. I wasn't sure if I had the right girl in hand and had to deal with it quickly right at the entrance. It was 12am and everyone must have an elevator key. The front desk didn't even flinch. But I noticed the next morning the front desk girls seemed have awfully big smiles from ear to ear.

FYI - If you are genuinely worried about it that much, ask her to meet you in the bar for a drink beforehand (of course more time needed).

lol.. The front desk is going to have no idea between a girlfriend, a delivery health girl and an escort and they could nor care less. They are NOT the police and the first 2 are completely legal in Japan. The 3rd is tolerated while the deli girls will often offer sex at an extra fee anyway.

The ONLY way the front desk would care is if you paid for a single room and you were taking a 2nd to the room without paying for her. I solve that dilemma by simply just getting a double room every time since I almost always have someone staying with me just about every night. :-P Also sux when they only give you one towel.
