I really want to check this place out soon.. because I heard it's a good place to find SDs and clients.. but I wouldn't want to make the trip if it turns out to not be what I had expected.

For those of you who have been to R2.. I have a few questions.

1) Is it usually crowded?
2) Are there more women than men, or is it vice-versa?
3) Are there more foreigners than locals?

Thank you~

I've been to R2 a couple of times (if we are talking about the same in roppongi...) and it's usually quite crowded and lots of girls from other clubs fishing clients there. I'd say there are more foreigners than Japanese but that could have changed.

Its a very pretentious environment full of lawyers and bankers (mostly expats) with over priced cocktails but its still nice to check out as a guy if you want to stop by for a pre drink. Used to be perfect when feria ( right opposite to it) was open.

@MissInsomnia you would like it there as there would be many rich guys who would give you lots of attention (assumung you are as gorgeous as all the taggers say you are :) ) if you go there please let us know how it went for you! All the best

It is usualy busy everyday but ofcourse the best days are friday night and saturday night around 10-midnight. Ratio is quite even with a mix of lots of escorts and non escorts alike (all very gorgoeous mostly) and the men are usually as mentioned above mostly powerhouse professionals or entrepreurs...

Usually crowded on Thur/Friday/Saturday. Fairly even split of locals/foreigners, and men/women.

It is best described as a spin off from the Grand Hyatt's Oak Door Bar. Hotel prices. It has an "industrial" design - so they keep the lighting down very low - beer goggles start working quickly in a cave. Strippers and Hostesses go there to fish out clients. It is not an easy bar to circulate in. If it is empty - then it is very obvious your circulating , and if it is packed then it is hard to relocate or even move.

But if you were an escort looking to work the bar scene in Roppongi, then R2 and the Oak Door Bar would be your best bets. Likely to catch professional guys on business who have been brought to R2 by their Tokyo colleagues.

The jazz bar Maduro, also in the Grand Hyatt, appears to have some similar action (and cocktail prices) from what I have observed there on a couple of occasions. The music is often quite good as well.

Perhaps we should declare a "TAG night" at R2, a date and time range when whoever wishes can show up, mingle with the crowd and exchange our secret handshakes (why are there no secret kisses on the cheek?) when we encounter each other.

I'm surprised so few of you have been! Yeah it's often very busy and often people smoking cigars which I really dislike the smell of

It's definitely a huge pro destination.. Fun fact: it's owned by the same guys who made two rooms in Aoyama - the name is flipped (two rooms -> R2). Two rooms is a more chill sit-down type of place, whereas R2 is a lively bar.

Interesting. I very much like Two Rooms which is excellent for lunches too, especially when the weather is good enough for eating on the deck.

I'm also sort of surprised that I have never been to R2 since I've walked past it countless times and nearly always thought of having a look...but never actually did it for some reason.

Something to try next time in Tokyo.

Are these places kind of exclusive for high end foreign businessmen/expats?

No..they are not exclusive. Just expensive. Their menu pricing excludes some people who don't want to pay 1000 -2000 JPY ( or more) for a drink. http://www.r2sc.jp/en/

It looks a little "hotelish" with the "concierge" type people at the front door -- but it is a pretty relaxed placed.

There are only a few "sophisticated" bars of this type in Roppongi .... so they can afford to ramp up prices.

Cheers.

It's no the price so much as the ambiance. Is it all dudes wearing suits coming in after a hard day on the trading floor?

Mixed bag really. Plenty of suits on Friday .... but not so many traders. They have cheaper filling stations before they hit the strip clubs. They probably have a dress code ..... never checked. I have rocked up in jeans many times. The girls usually make an effort.

Definitely would go when going to Feria, but since feria is gone, I haven't been back since. I don't look like the rich expat I guess so no action for me, or maybe because I was with a big group of people....

So whats the deal there?
Do girls pay entree/their own drinks?
Are guys looking for an escort, sugar baby or a stripper/bar girl to drink with somewhere else?
What kind of money do they offer?

I have been to Oak Door many times. I often meet up there with wife and friends after work on Friday. I immediately notice if there is one or more escorts sitting at the bar sipping drinks. It's so obvious if you are observant. But nobody else notice it, because they are not looking for it. It's very discreet, if you don't know. The staff knows, of course - I would think. There is no entrance fee - it's a bar/restaurant - and the escorts obviously pay for their drinks until they find company. How exactly that happens, I don't know.

I have never approached an escort in a bar. I would think that some guys are not fooled, they know what it's all about from start. While others might think that it's their lucky day, a lonely woman sitting there waiting to be picked up. Until they are informed. How the news are brought to them, I don't know. It would be very interesting to hear from female TAG members with experience how it's done. How do you go about it? What is the typical reaction?

It is just a regular bar..... an upscale, sophisticated bar by Roppongi standards. I am not a huge fan of the place - it is just one of a few places in the Roppongi area that isn't a pub or dive bar so it has attracted a relatively "in" crowd for several years now, and people take business visitors there. The place is not full of escorts. I don't think anyone goes there looking for an escort or a sakura stripper/hostess. From a guys perspective, it is a "cool" bar where you might meet some girls and have some fun. I think many local guys would be aware of the stripper/hostess trap, but locals and visitors may be a little surprised to find the girl they have been chatting up is an escort if her dress sense matches the bar. It is a mixed crowd...lots of suits, OLs, sometimes a few girls in kimonos/yukatas, sumo wrestlers, the new rich in jeans and T-shirts.

There is no cover charge. Girls buy their own drinks -- unless they meet a new friend quickly. It is expensive by Roppongi standards....and that is reflected in the guys that drink here. Which is why you may find a SD or client here. Worth popping in a Friday night if your in the area just to get a sense of the scene.

I don't know if that statement is accurate in general, but it definitely does not describe R2 this evening (Sat, June 11th).

I guess you should never underestimate the power of a post on TAG. Saturday night's dynamics could possibly have been affected by this statement posted on TAG on Friday morning:

"It's definitely a huge pro destination."

I have one or two free nights next week and I'm keen to check out R2 for myself.
Must remember not to drink too much, lest I start to dance. :ROFLMAO:
