Review Narrative:
I got their Superior Double room and was put on the 19th floor. At 240 sq ft, the room is nice size for the middle of Shibuya, right across from the Hachiko statue, so definitely convenient.

Walking into the lobby, you get the feel of a higher class hotel, maybe a 4 star but not a 5 star, and the front desk staff was excellent. The room was very clean, decor/furnishings are nice but I'd say more in line with a good 3 star hotel.

There are 4 elevators that go to the rooms. Two of them are glass, and one faces the Shibuya Crossing, so you can get a nice view of Shibuya. It does require a key card, however bringing up a date to your room is not an issue. Just meet her on the lobby floor (5th) by the elevators, as the front desk is located off to the side, without a good view. It's also a larger hotel, so there's usually other guests going in and out.

I booked a room for 1 person, but 2 sets of towels were included. This was my second time staying there and it was the same both times. I did bring my beautiful escort there, and she was impressed with the room, as I was lucky enough to get a room with a view of the Shibuya Crossing.

I would definitely stay here again, if I need to be in Shibuya. However, the next time I'm with my lovely escort I'll pay additional to go to a love hotel, as I just love being in a large hot tub with her.

Final Rating:
★★★★★ (5 Stars)

Thanks for the review. Shibuya Excel Tokyo Hotel is rather old at 25+ years but it's right across from Shibuya station and above Mark City. The rooms proably got renovated once or twice but I haven't tried it since at least 10 years ago. Did you feel the interior is still outdated or it's pretty clean/modern?

The newer Shibuya Sream Excel Hotel (of the same chain) across from Shibuya Scramble Square and inside the Shibuya Stream building, a little further (but not by that much) from the Shibuya station is nicer, more modern, and more costly, and might not have a nicer view (well, maybe looking at Hikarie and Shibuya Scramble Square) but not the famous crossing.

Yes, the interior is outdated and could use a refresh. However, I found that a lot of Japanese hotels are guilty of taking very long to refresh their rooms, versus the larger hotel chains we have in the US.

The Shibuya Stream looks very nice and while I do appreciate some of the finer things in life. Reserving a room as a single guy, the location and price of the Excel works fine for me.
