Just an FYI that I was recently denied entry to Hotel Claire for not speaking Japanese. Except that I do speak Japanese — well enough, at least, to understand what the old woman was asking me and to respond accordingly.
In the end, she offered a “gomenasai” and gestured toward the exit.
I’d patronized this hotel a few other times with the same girl (Vietnamese) and had zero issues, so we were taken aback a bit.
We went directly across the alleyway to SK Plaza, and I was again asked about my language ability while looking over the available rooms. Access granted, though.
