Why Are Independent Escorts More Expensive?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but why are independent escorts so much more expensive than the agencies like AM? I understand they may tout superior quality, but there's no way of knowing for sure until after I've spent the money.

Any thoughts?
 
How much more money are you talking about and what escorts are you talking about?
 
If you look through most of the indy escort ads posted in the ads section, they're like $500 for 1 hour. AM is 35,000 yen for 2 hours. It seems most indy escorts are just way more expensive, at least the ones that post here.
 
They say they are independents but in all actuality they work through an agency.

I don't want to say we're beating a dead horse here, but there are a few reasons why they have the prices they do.
Obviously, if they weren't getting a business, they'd have to lower their fees... but someone is paying, so why not charge a higher rate when there's people out there willing to pay? Some guys just simply feel better about spending the money despite what the end result may be.

On top of that, there only a few Japanese independents that charge higher rates. The rest have average rates....

Those non-Asian escorts usually have the highest rates... there's a hefty market for non-Asian escorts in an Asian country.

There's a few ways to spin it, but YMMV. You pay 70,000 yen for one hour and hate it... but all you can do is rely on reviews and feedback until you experience it yourself.

Edit: For those ladies I've met in person, their personalities were perfectly pleasant. I can't comment on their service...

Who are you referring to? Those we have listed here, at least the verified ones, are not working with any agency.

(I know a few independents that do work under someone, but I've never met them...)

Just look at backpage. Everyone there is listed to an agency of some sort.

The girls listed via "gmail" are legit though. Are they Japanese is another question but i know for a fact that they are real and not models/AV stars in a different country. If anyone can prove me wrong.....please do!

Yeah, Backpage is a joke. There's like 15 different "independent" girls posted under 1 account.

I guess my only other thought was that having high fees scares off some of the "crazies." Working indy is probably scary.

This is partially true based on stories that I've heard. Luckily, the ladies seem to have a good sense on how to screen someone before meeting them. They don't use phones usually, to avoid that kind of harassment...

The basic fee has something to do with it (filtering), but some people will still try and negotiate regardless and wind up getting blocked or sent straight to the junk mail folder.
 
@JBlair thanks for the explanation. I guess you pay for the quality of service too and the lower end escorts might have a conveyor belt-like service.

That is just a typo on her part or maybe you were not talking yen. No independent escort will offer you 2h for 6000yen. Most likely it is 35k and 60k.

This was her response to my email.
"Yes baby I am available. What time do u like to meet baby? And 1 hours for 3500¥. 2 hour 6000¥ baby. Looking forward to see you"
I ended up booking another girl for 30 000.

There is what is called a "sucker price" or "sucker deal". This a price for people that don't know any better or are overly desperate.

The actual price MIGHT be lower or negotiable, but it's also relative to how truly in demand she is. If she is "really" a 10, then that might be really the price and her value. But, it can be a 7 offering nothing special or pretending to be more than she is, and hoping to catch some fools out there.

A 1st time traveler to Japan or any new country, can simply not know what the true market price is or the actual value of the woman in question. Consequently, they are more easily fooled, and such women can be relying on catching a steady stream of such type of guys.
 
Back before the advent of online prostitution forums (such as this one and many others), review sites, escort photos online etc, the market was a total nightmare. For the most part you never had the slightest idea what sort of *relative* price and/or service you were receiving...even in an area where you did lots of mongering, much less when traveling to a new place.

Not only that, but you usually had to walk to your appointments in the snow, five miles uphill, both ways! :D

If I was lucky enough to be selling my services I would be charging at the top of the market too and would be quite picky ...... probably have quite a bit of spare time on my hands.

What are the indicia of the "higher class of gentlemen" relative to the man who pays $200-300 per hour? and what is the price threshold to screen out the "lower class of gentlemen"?
 
@namae - Your question wasn't directed to me, but just to add my 2 cents worth, I can report that I have heard many escorts comment (both in online forums and in-person) on how much the "quality" of their customers improves when they put their prices up a bit above average/typical ones in whatever market they work. Improvements I recall having heard mentioned include greater punctuality (both in starting and, as @User#16452 emphasizes, ending dates), fewer no-shows and last minute cancelations, further in advance bookings, more likely to tip, better hygiene, more polite and considerate (e.g., more likely to be concerned about that activities are comfortable for the escort), more likely to accept an escort's rules/restrictions without making a fuss or complaining, less likely to be very drunk, staying at nicer hotels (for outcall), more likely to repeat or become regulars, taller (???...I dunno, but that is what one escort claimed) and others I am sure I have forgotten. The general picture is clear enough I guess.

Obviously these are just patterns and generalizations that have exceptions; bad/asshole customers can sometimes pay high prices, and there can be really excellent/gentleman customers had at lower price levels. I don't think many escorts would dispute that either.

Personally I find this pattern a bit surprising, but it is definitely conventional wisdom based on experience among many, probably most, escorts. :confused:
