Yamagata Sucks (figuratively)

I just spent 5 weeks in Yamagata and damn... Not a single deli or fashion, or ANYTHING will take a gaijin.. Maybe if I spoke passable Japanese ordering deli on the phone. But my J is very basic and they can always tell I'm gaijin. Super annoying..

One thing I have learning... If the person answering the phone is female, you *may* have a chance at getting service.. If its a dude, NEVER.

No point... Just venting.. :-P

The cities of Tsuruoka and Sakata struck me as really abandoned places. Deserted malls and shopping arcades in the city centres, large supermarkets on the arterial roads, a foretaste of how the rest of Japan will become
