That reminds me, the first Japanese porn i saw was called "under the blue sky" and was an outside porn (nothing too public though, i think it was just in the grass near a private swimming pool or something). My recent japanese movie was Yell For The Blue Sky (青空エール)
It's a high school drama-romance (I like to watch these)
I really liked it. Good acting, good story and I thought it was produced very well. Not to forget a very satisfying ending that made me smile so hard it hurted a little.
And one more teenage romance called Wasurenai To Chikatta Boku ga Ita.
Oh I would also like to mention
Beat Takeshi's ''Brother''
Some impressive titles in that list! I've seen lots but not all of those. My top 15 favourite Japanese movies would probably look something like this:
Red Angel (赤い天使) by Masumura Yasuzo, 1966
Older Brother, Little Sister (あにいもうと) by Naruse Mikio, 1953
Woman in the Dunes (砂の女) by Teshigahara Hiroshi, 1964
Onibaba (鬼婆) by Shindo Kaneto, 1964
Ugetsu (雨月物語) by Mizoguchi Kenji, 1953
Lovers are Wet (恋人たちは濡れた) by Kumashiro Tatsumi, 1973
Throne of Blood (蜘蛛巣城) by Kurosawa Akira, 1957
Angel Guts: Red Classroom (天使のはらわた 赤い教室) by Chusei Sone, 1979
A Page of Madness (狂った一頁) by Kinugasa Teinosuke, 1926
Eros+Massacre (エロス+虐殺) by Yamada Kiju, 1969
Boy (少年) by Oshima Nagisa, 1969
Go, Go, Second-time Virgin (ゆけゆけ二度目の処女) by Wakamatsu Koji, 1969
Branded to Kill (殺しの烙印) by Suzuki Seijun, 1967
The Pornographers (「エロ事師たち」より 人類学入門) by Imamura Shohei, 1966
Kwaidan (怪談) by Kobayashi Masaki, 1965
Some of the more oddball choices have impressed me a lot as a teen so maybe I'd be more critical nowadays if I saw them again. Also my choices are based on entertainment value rather than historical importance.
Not really a fan of contemporary Japanese cinema though I haven't made too much effort to really get interested in it.
Well, the kids in the Hunger games ARE of school kids age. Prim was even just 12 when she got ripped.Battle Royale
Reason: Weirdness and twisted violence that could only come from the Japanese imagination. It's a little like Hunger Games but with school kids.

There was a movie from perhaps the bubble era called "Tokyo decadence". Not sure of the japanese title, but great s&m theme.
Samurai Hustle 超高速!参勤交代 (great samurai comedy. Haven't seen the sequel yet)
I read the books, both the first one and "returns'
I didn't know there is movie as well. Gotta check it out. Thanks!
