Don't mean to brag, my friend, my annual salary is over ¥ 8 million and with housing allowance included, over ¥ 13 million.

The key to the bucks, at least in my case, was going back to school, just as I turned 40, getting a university degree, later a masters, and continuing on to earn over 30 more units of graduate credit. Then, working for 20 years for the same organization.

However, since I was such a late starter, I save over 25% of that for retirement.

Before that, I lived paycheck to paycheck most of the time. And when I wasn't working, it was even tougher. I still remember, in the early eighties, sitting in a grocery store parking lot in Santa Cruz, with a trunk of firewood I cut and split, with a sign selling it for $35 to buy food and beer. Hey, gotta have a bit of the simple pleasures after chopping firewood!

Assuming that I had an ongoing sex life with one or more regular/frequent np4p partners, I'd probably save up the ¥100,000 to pay for a major erotic splurge/indulgence of some sort every month or two.
