Best Ramen

My first ramen I ate in Tokyo is still the best I've had so far. I always visit them when I can.
The place is called Kobushi, it's a tsukemen place on the north side of Shinjuku.

Please try the tokusei kara tsukemen which is amazing (the non kara is also very good if you don't like spicy).
I got the feeling they had switched owners last time but the food seemed the same fortunately.
I'd really like to see if people find it as good as I do. Nothing else I've tried has even come close so far.

I like Menya Musashi in Shinjuku. Yum!

All these popular Ramen shops in Tokyo have way to greasy soup for my taste. I am from Kansai region in food section.
After living in Tokyo for longer than 20 years, I still miss some of Kansai dishes.
Does anyone know any good Ramen shops where have very basic soy sauce or plain salt based soup?

You could try Menyahidamari in Yanaka.
Two years ago I was staying near Nishi-Nippori station and looking for a late and quick dinner. The broth was too plain and thin for my taste, but may be just what you're looking for :)

My two favourite Ramen restaurants are Kokutei in Kumamoto and Fukuraiten in Sapporo. I'm more of an Udon person and usually only go for Ramen when too lazy to look for something else, so my opinion may be flawed.

You can try the soyu ramen at Hototogisu. The flavor was very balanced and the pork was also very lean.

It has a high rating 3.71 on Tabelog.

best ramen has been kururi (i dont even like miso style)... its been closed now, but they reopened with some kind of spicy miso version...

the michelin star ramen is as over rated as most popular spots... if it comes to ramen, the more unknown, the better...

basanova is also a good chooce, btw (yes, im a ramen nerd)

I've enjoyed Jiro (yasai ninniku mashi mashi), and 666 (they got niboshi-shoyu and shio available) in the past.
Nowadays, if I want noodles I tend to get the healthier sansai soba ... also good for the nearby soba shop's business.

Thank you for the recommendations @Goshogawara and @Chocoballs

@scorpioni6ths
I love Soba! It is probably my most favorite noodle. But again, it is hard to find Kansai Dashi in Tokyo.
Kanto style is usually too salty for me.

Ippudo
Nakamoto
Ichiran - not a personal choice, but popular among Japanese

Oh dear god. Ramen. My soul food. My patronus!

I'm a huge fan of tonkotsu ramen, and here in Yokohama we've got a lot of it. Takasagoya, Arigataya, Ippachiya, Suzukiya, Machida shoten, to name a few.

There's also Hamatora, which I've been to once last year, but can't remember how it was. Need to get back there soon.

I've thought about trying Tsuta, the michelin star-reviewed place, but nope. I'm not going that early in the morning just to be told my lunch time will be in the afternoon.

And while it's not ramen, there's a great yakitori place in Yokohama called Yokohama shouten. No shit, first time I went there I couldn't figure out the name. I just thought that it was the Yokohama branch of the place.....but nope, that's its name XD Happy hour beers are 200yen (suntory premium malts), and some of the chicken is like 100 yen.

But yeah, if anybody wants to come down to Yokohama for some ramen, hit me up!

Sorry to tell you but the best ramen in Japan is located in saitama city of niiza called Zenya
But need to wait about 1 hour on a good day and 2 on the weekends also if you go too late like after 3 your out of luck because when the soup is gone they are closed for the day.
Rated number 1 in Japan for three of four years in a row.

Heart attack ramen aka Jiro Ramen.

Not too big a fan of the typical ramen as I find it a bit bland, or salty, but I do love a good Tantanmen.
Most of the ramen joints sell it, and I make it at home occasionally.

dear god, im definitely going to have to try Jiro now. There's one down Rt 16 from me near Kannai I think......

They all taste a little different. The kabukicho one is amazing but not for the faint of heart. Nakame wasn't as good IMO

My favorite ramen is a little mom and pop shop way out in the middle of the mountains in deep Nagano.

I have yet to find a Ramen place in the greater Tokyo area that I really enjoy compared to that tiny shop in the mountains.

There is a small shop near my place that has a long line of people at night time, usually about 30--40 people deep at the peak evening hours.
I'm tempted to try it, but I assume the taste will be similar to other Tokyo ramen.

I will join that illustrious group. I like my ramen a bit spicy. One of my favourites was a now closed down shop where they had kimchi and other spicy stuff as optional toppings ;)

Yummy that looks good! You should also try Senrigan in Kitazawa.

It's always fun to take some friends to Jiro style ramen. Two of them couldn't even finish the normal sized bowl. It's definitely a struggle to finish it and the soup is even too heavy to drink. These days I just go for half noodles and light soup. But I always go for double pork! Big chunks of tender chasyu :joyful:

Senrigan is number 25 on the ramen database.
