Its interesting to see both the side that wants to leave and the side that wants to stay, and was wondering what the people of tag thought about this issue.

My mothers from the UK and wanted to stay in...I however favored it. But now I'm having doubts because my inheritance might diminish if my extended family passes away!

Hey, are you folks aware, that the vote took place earlier this week?

Just askin' :woot:

Spoiler Alert:

Leave won...

It's better for Europe to have the UK gone. Like anywhere else you can't really work with someone who always threatens to throw in and only wants to cherry-pick.

That being said I think that people there will regret it. The whole leave campaign was built on lies and wrong premises. Speaks volumes if Boris Johnson now suggests to not rush things...

What really saddens me is that such a decision which is really important for the future and the young people of UK was heavily carried by the 65+.

The fall out will also be interesting. Scotland strongly considering another independency vote and even in Northern Ireland such a notion might gain momentum.

Some guy yesterday asked me if I was from England. After the referendum result, I've never been so insulted in my life...!

Please don't feel offended, you know how highly I regard you, but as I understand it was a UK vote.

Scotland favored remaining.

There's talk of having another Scottish independent vote so that Scotland can rejoin the EU.

Europe is turning into a giant Soviet Socialist Republic ruled by non-elected officials. The whole project is built on lies and corruption.

70 million Turks will swamp the rest of Europe in a few years. This along with the open borders with the third world will destroy the European way of life for the majority.

Hopefully the rest of Europe will open their eyes before it is too late.

Old news. The Eurocrats have already announced that it will never happen. They don't want other regions in other member states to start declaring themselves independent. If Scotland wants to go independent they won't be part of Euroland. So the Scots are stuck with the English whether they like it or not.

NON! EU slaps down Sturgeon: SNP leader dramatically announces she wants 'immediate discussions' to STAY in EU... but she is humiliated as Brussels says 'No, that's not how it works'

SCOTLAND was dealt a huge blow by Brussels yesterday after chiefs ruled they can not remain in the EU when the UK leaves.

Yes, some sense at last!

I was sincerely devastated.

My stocks down, my savings worth significantly less at the moment, my company engagements put on hold. Moreover, what is doing to happen to my mortgage?

I am coming back to the UK to fix the long term damaged done to my business. A lot of my customers were international companies and banks, a lot of projects were put on hold.

Even though I am Polish, I have a British citizenship (I've been living there my entire adult life, so 30+ years), I was gutted and flabbergasted, and feel ashamed that the uneducated masses decided the faith of the rest with such a severe impact. They will drag everything into the shambles with them.

I hope that Scotland leaves, I hope that London will turn into a city state.

Another thing we need is Trump to win...

I'm so sorry for you.

You have my sympathy, as well. I can only imagine your loss.

I feel fortunate. Since I am retiring in one year, I started moving my assets to a safe, albeit low return fund.

I got completely out of the stock market in mid-April, deciding to take my profits and run. Lucky me.

.

You need to keep updated what is happening if you are going around calling 52 percent of the population uneducated.

You make a good point, but try to put yourself in poor Black Mage's shoes.

Calling them uneducated is rather mild compared to some of the post election rhetoric.

There was a high turnout, about 72%, so in a race that close, it's hard to catagorically state that most UK resident voters favored Leave. No doubt, many wistfully wish they had voted.

Edit:

On the American front, in the primaries, over 12 million have voted for Trump. Calling them uneducated would be the kindest description in my warped view of the world.

As an educated person he will understand that investments go up and down. Although if he has 'balanced' his investments things shouldn't be too bad. He should also know paper losses don't mean anything at the end of the day. And I if there is turmoil in the markets it is a buying opportunity.

Interest rates are historically at their lowest ever so are bound to go up one day. Which millions of people will actually be happy about.

Anyway simetimes it is better to respect the wishes of the majority in a democratic vote even though you might not initially benefit. Indeed I will likely lose out by the Brexit in the short term at least.

MossBoss,

You, are, indeed a wise man. I just hope Black Mage is young enough to recover.

I made a bundle in the stock market 2008-2013, by holding on and buying as much as I could while prices were down.

Hope you recover, as well.

I got lucky.

If you remember the Lehman shock. Many stocks were down 25% plus in a week. The wise guys filled their boots. 6 to 12 months later all the same stocks were above the pre-Lehman levels.....

Typical insulting comment from the 'remain' group. I suppose my 'uneducated' viewpoint is not welcomed by intellectuals, so best not to say anything.

On the polling failure during the run-up to the Brexit vote, I was reminded of Greenspan's quote from an earlier interview:
Alan Greenspan said:
“Through all of my experience, what I never contemplated was that there were bankers who would purposely misrepresent facts to banking authorities,” Alan Greenspan, chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve from 1987 to 2006, said in a phone interview. “You were honor-bound to report accurately, and it never entered my mind that, aside from a fringe element, it would be otherwise. I was wrong.”

It is not that voting leave makes one uneducated. But based on statistical analysis of the election the leave voters were especially strong among people with lower education and the pensioners age group.

One could argue it's very populist. Employing vague fears without backing them up by facts. But surely catches well with a lot of people.

Turkey will not join the EU anytime soon. That being said aside from maybe France most European countries would benefit from a moderate influx especially of younger migrants to deal with long-term demographic problems.

Discussing pros and cons of the EU would surely go a little far here, but only time will tell if leaving was such a beneficial move as you seem to expect.
