Daily WHO Reports for the Coronavirus Outbreak (Link)

In the meantime, authorities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region are sending hundreds of ethnic Uyghurs to other parts of China to work in factories affected by the coronavirus.
(Background info: The Chinese government has been violating the human rights of the Uyghur minority by imprisoning them in “re-education” camps and forcing involuntary labor upon them.)

I feel sorry for the people but their government deserves whatever is happening to them.

Agreed. Nothing against Chinese people, but their government is horrible. What you mentioned and the daily disappearances of anyone who speaks out against literally anything the government does are just the tip of the iceberg. Seems like the Chinese people are getting more vocally critical of their government since this whole virus outbreak though. Who knows, maybe there's a small chance it'll affect some change.

My job gave me a two week paid vacation which is pretty crazy (and awesome) and I decided to go to the supermarket to buy some basic groceries at opening time and I saw some middle aged lady run to buy masks and/or toilet paper. She somehow ended up tripping and collapsed on the ground. A security guard ran up to her and helped her up but as she got up she noticed that a young female worker was holding up a sign which said "Sorry, we do not currently carry any masks" and the lady began murmuring and left looking all confused. It took everything in me to contain my laughter. I feel a bit sorry for these people... but at the same time they're just making the situation much worse for everyone.

I also think one of the biggest issues here is that those of us who actually might need to buy tissues and/or toilet paper now can't due to hoarding. Cup noodles are still sold out at my local 7-11 and Family Mart as of this morning.

My area is pretty much fine with cup noodles but toilet paper, masks and tissue papers are sold out.
Disinfects as well.... funny enough, there is plenty of soap everywhere :cautious: makes you wonder....
According to my mother, people in Germany go nuts as well and the shelves are empty....

Germans are the worst when it comes to fear mongering and being afraid. When Fukushima happened people rushed to buy Geiger-counters and I think iodine tablets (which help against radiation) were sold out. Doesn't matter that it happened at the other side of the globe, people like to be afraid. As a German I never understood this behavior...it's just pain idiotic.

But yeah, like you said its similar in some areas in Germany and people are buying masks, toilet paper, pasta, canned food like crazy.....preparing for the apocalypse :wacky:

its funny all those similarities between Germany and Japan sometimes ... no wonder they had a special relationship in the good old days :D

Yet nobody has ever really talked what happened in Chernobyl but totally going insane after what happened in japan and even shutting down all reactors. My best friend just jumped onto the fearmongering wagon and I had to put her on ignore because of how much she annoys me.... She thinks the pandemic is already there and she needs to hoard before she can’t get any food anymore :banghead: thankfully my parents are normal....

As a best friend you shouldn't put her on ignore, but get her drunk enough that she stops worrying ... Alcohol is also used to disinfect ... Just saying in case you need arguments;)

She’s in Germany so it’s a bit hard to get her drunk  She barely drinks anyways. But for the past couple months she has been on a weird ‘trip’ anyways so I need a time-out for a while as well. Hopefully once spring and the warmer weather is here everyone calms down :(

You can't afford me...........
It is not you that I can’t afford, It’s the cost of the orange that’s beyond my budget. You’re a Cheap Trick.

On a more serious note, I hope none of you hardened mongers/punters/escorts get the Corona unless it’s beer. While some post the symptoms of the 81%, keep in mind that young people are included in the 14% that had a 50/50 chance of survival, more like death. With that said, be vigilante, stay healthy, get enough sleep, and eat immune boosting food.

It's funny how panicky people get. It spreads like the virus itself, except not through person to person transmission, but through the internet.
If society did collapse, how long do you think you could survive in the wild? I think I could make 6 days. I would drink some questionable water by the third day and probably die of explosive digestive problems. But I know some survivalist types would be okay for a lot longer.

All I need is a good knife and I’m set.

So, living in Japan with restrictive knife laws, I’m screwed.

Not just that, but a lot of Japanese-American men who volunteered to fight in WWII and ended up in Europe brought home German wives with them. Go figure, everyone hated Japanese and Germans back stateside and we'd bombed their hometowns to the Stone Age so they made convenient bedfellows. But holy dogshit, some of the kids and grandkids that came out of those marriages were fucking HOT.

The professionals, in this case may be incredibly gifted when it comes to treating infectious diseases, but they don’t know crap about people.

If you tell people that masks can’t protect you, but in every photo of professionals interacting with the inflicted, they are wearing masks, the people are going to think there’s some bull being flung. Of course people were going to disregard what the professionals are saying and copy what they are actually doing.

That's why laws be damned, I never travel anywhere (even Japan) without my Leatherman in my suitcase and preferably in my gear bag on my person at all times. Leatherman, tactical flashlight and a good pen, tools of a champ. In my social circles (doomsday prepper gun nuts), there's a common belief that in the event of the breakdown of society (or invasion by commies) there are only three things necessary for survival: A 12-gauge shotgun and ammo, a good hunting knife and a firestarter. Personally, I swap the shotgun for my folding-stock AK-47 and add good hand lotion and my Glock 9mm if that's not cheating. If all hope is lost, I can have a really fine beat-off session and then blow my brains out with the Glock as rifles are just too awkward and messy for the endgame. I think I'm well overdue for a Red Dawn popcorn party.

If all hope is lost I'm gonna set up a boardgame cafe. I'll let people play war of the ring or star wars rebellion for any canned goods. Well. Within reason. Not gonna eat any canned shellfish, obviously.

Despite doctors, WHO, and CDC clearly stating from the beginning that masks are not necessary for the general population.... it doesn't stop herd mentality, i guess. Citing actual medical professionals does not convince anyone.
Half the people would be wearing masks anyway due to the hay fever. But the other half, I agree, encapsulates the very worst aspect of Japanese culture: the fear that you will be seen to not be doing your part in cooperating. Here is a short list of similar symptoms:

separating garbage into 20 different categories lest you be called out by the neighborhood garbage nazi

Saying your sorry all the time when you are not

Staying late in the office for no good reason whatsoever

talking about the same issues at work over and over and over endlessly until you come up with a plan that makes everyone equally unhappy and you have forgot what the objective was in the first place.

oh I could go on but I’m trying to reduce my stress level.

I wish I had born a Viking,
with a big sword in one hand,
a big hammer in the other.
I’d kill all living things
and smash everything else.
With my dick I’d fuck your mother.

Love that, expect the last part

Here is a hidden secret that most people don't know. There is a disinfectant in the section of medical supplies in most drug stores called "benzyl alkonium (chloride)." A $4 bottle would probably last you until the next pandemic. Last time I checked over the weekend those bottles were sitting lonely. Dilute 7ml 200x down with tap water and place in a spray bottle and never worry about the drying effects on hands that alcohol has. BTW, this virus has not been proven to be airborne. The death rate in China would probably be over 100,000 given the way sewer vents steam up the streets on cold winter nights of which the smell alone enough to kill.

I go the gym regularly...wanted to go today and was also greeted by a 2 week vacation sign. Seems more and more smaller places are shutting down as well.

My gym is still open but there's literally no one there. I went there last Wednesday. Usually about 15-20 people at night. There was me and one other guy. Walked by today again. Still no one. People are really spooked.

I wish my onsen was the same, but I definitely wouldn't complain about the gym. I went on the weekend and it was fairly crowded, but a lot of students there.
