In the states and on several discussion board sites depending on your local areas many do Meet & Greets and Socials.
Where the hobbyists and providers meet each other in a bar or restaurant to get to know each other.

Does this happen in Tokyo?

Myself, I've been going to the for almost 13 years and you meet alot of people. Both providers and Hobbysits.
Nothing hanky panky at these it's just a place to mingle and eat, drink and or hangout?

Yes, I know this is not for everyone! But, does this happen?

We have had one official TAG meet & greet which turned out to be a great event. That was followed by a small 2nd party, which also went well.
Beyond that first gathering, we have had 1 or 2 semi-official gatherings at other locations around Tokyo. And even beyond that, there have been smaller gatherings between members.

The problem these days is security.... we realize that people are much different online and offline, but it's been made clear to me that having another gathering may not be a good idea or at the very least, requires some strict protocol so that people that aren't invited, don't turn up.

We're not against the idea of doing an official party combined with some food, drink and good conversation... it just needs to be well planned and the attendees, well controlled.

Beyond TAG, I'm not aware of any other meetups that happen within the hobby similar to what we've had before.

Private invitations.

Most hobbyists and providers on TAG want to keep their identity as safe as possible, so they prefer small, private gatherings instead.

When you really think about it.. Tokyo is a small city and you get more attention for being a foreigner. I bump into other providers and former clients on a regular basis.

I mean for foreigners. A lot of foreigners tend to frequent the same spots in Tokyo.
And even if you don't hang out in the usual Gaijin pubs-bars after you've been here 15 to 20 years the circle of foreigners who are still here is so small that you are usually one point away from any other foreigner.

it was great. But times have changed..
This makes it sound like there are many lunatics frequenting TAG...( or just a few specific members who are lunatics irl, but don't appear to be online? )

People on reddit (much bigger site) seem to hold local meetups without many problems.

I dont really understand the need for 'security' if it's going to be held at a public place without any naughty activities planned. What about requiring interested people to register beforehand - numbers can be controlled and only people registered get the specific location details?

I'd like to know who those people are as well. There are certainly people who are anti TAG and people who want to create drama around the escorting profession but i cant point my finger at them, except for some accounts that have been banned from TAG completely, which rarely happens.

I wouldn't fear about physical safety either, but the identities of the people using TAG are sensitive. Some mongers are married or have jobs that wouldn't be happy if someone revealed their hobby.
As for the girls, the ones of us who havent been outed or have outed themselves have A LOT to lose.

You’re still going to talk about TAG-related topics and adult topics in general during the meet-ups. You wouldn’t want to create such a large group of foreigners AND talk about these things in a public setting. That can cause a lot of negative attention.

Keep in mind that a lot of TAG users may also have high job positions. They could put their work reputations at risk.

If you want to create an event, you could post a public ad and select the attendees you want at your event, or invite users privately.

Fetlife has munches, but I don’t know how they would view TAGers and vice versa. Or if TAGers only want to meet other TAGers. And I’m totally sympathetic to Alice’s concerns, so I’m just throwing out the possibility.

Though rereading the post, the poster is asking for a TAG social, not necessarily a place to meet other like minded people whether or not they are on TAG. Sorry about that

Well, mongers who absolutely can't afford to be exposed likely already know the risks of attending such a meetup and would guard their privacy during the event anyway.
I suppose you can't really stop some dude from taking photos of people Lol. :snaphappy:

I'm not saying this would ever happen. i just brought it up cause I attend many Socials and M&G in the USA. They're fun! That is just my 2cents. Yes, they're not for everyone cause people want there privacy. Plus being in Japan it's a "secret society".
But, what is funny. After the party or socials it amazing how many guys that didn't attend are pm'ing or asking questions to other mongers about stuff that happen there or trying to get #'s for girls.

Also, I have helped organize a few of them and "yes"!
They are invite only
Location is not given until day of party.
People are vetted!
"No" taking of pics of both provider and hobbyist.
Party is in a pvt room or area.
Party is only for 4 hours.
There is alot more but will only say what is above.

This was just a topic I brought up.

One idea:

Post a public ad and charge a small fee for the party. Set specific rules.
Rent out a space and provide that location only to those who have pre-paid.
Instant control, and depending on space rented probably less than the cost of a bad cover charge to a club.

Alternatively, you could just book an all-day session with each of the TAG ladies at your place all on the same day. ;)
You'd lose your shirt of course (literally and financially) but that would be one hell of a "meetup"
I'd imagine the individuals wallet and bank account would be pretty empty HAHA

That's not all that would be empty ;)

But in all seriousness, I think there's a certain appeal to being able to meet other mongers rather than just the ladies (though I wouldn't pass on that either). This lifestyle isn't for everyone so it's nice to know there are others that share in it.

a client (men) only meetup is not hard to setup.

clients and providers meetup is harder IMHO. consider a provider who had blacklisted a bad client. provider does not want any contact w/ that client ... socially and, of course, privately. some providers are very strict about this. so security and safety of everyone is needed. not all girls blacklist the same guys so all the girls must be sure of the attendees first hand. if a problem person attends a girl will probably bail. so it could end up as a men-only meetup.

if one invites several people, even with participation fees, there might still be one or two bad apples. other people might start thinking they're entitled to getting some "selfies" with the girls (hello, were not in a porn awards night or convention) or maybe hidden shots of the girls. even if there are rules against such practice.

then, some people can just be real PITA.
