I recently replied to a member here who was thinking about coming to Japan to be an escort - part of my reply was to explain some of the differences between P4P in Japan vs how it often works in much of the rest of the world. One of my points was that streetwalkers are very uncommon here.

That got me to thinking. In fact, two of my favorite SP's with whom I had ongoing contact for long periods were ladies I met in the street. As a matter of fact, both of them I met on the same street in Hyakunin-Cho.

However it does seem that I see almost no women like that (well, at least not during the daytime) there anymore.

So, I got to wondering if there might be other areas and times when there is more of this kind of activity? Of course there are touts of various nationalities and genders out there to lead passers-by into shops of every stripe - no need to bring those up. I am talking strictly about an independent woman looking to meet an interested gentleman for a one-on-one transaction.

Any information about this kind of activity in Tokyo? Where? General time of day/night? Any experiences?

I don’t think its advisable for anyone on a tourist visa to go streetwalking.
Would catch you a ban in most countries you are in, or trouble with the local mafia. That is of course if you aggressively approach guys while offering sex. In Japan you often spontaneously meet sugar daddies in social settings.

Have you heard of deai cafes. They are where most Japanese independents hang out. Very relaxed place and good atmosphere, much better for ladies than hanging around outside.

The closest thing you have is R2 supper club in Roppongi. Freelance escorts may go there to search for potential clients.
I’d say that thats a quite fancy place while streetwalkers have more of a “cheap” image that is one of their main selling point. I guess its easy to convince guys who are not especially looking for p4p to spend an amound that they probably already have in their wallet.
I imagine girls at R2 charge probably 3 times more than streetwalkers.

I have to say, its strange indeed that Tokyo has those annoying foreign touts that they seem to not be able to do more about than fine them, but they don’t have girls who offer some what you see is what you get service.
You’d think its pretty much the same thing under the same kind of laws and a provider offering it directly would be more useful.

Whoa! Wait a minute.

I wasn't advising anybody to try streetwalking on a tourist visa. How did that come out? I was just explaining that the P4P scene in Japan is very different from the scene in most other countries. The lack of streetwalkers was an example.

Now I was asking what experiences people have had with streetwalkers here. Deai cafes are discussed in lots of other threads.

Well, you commented about streetwalkers on a thread for a visiting escort...

Also in this thread you asked about independents. Why would any indie with passible Japanese stand outside in the middle of the night wearing slutty clothes and having to stand all the time, plus embarrassing themselves by asking guys who are possibly not interested, in this cold wind while they can sit inside a comfortable lounge? Plus at the few spots for streetwalkers there are, they have to directly pay the yakuza appearantly and there are also police cars driving around there.

Deai cafe accepts everyone if you have a working phone number and speak a little bit Japanese. Why would anyone want to stand outside and possibly deal with the mafia and police and annoying dudes who think its funny to shout insults when passing by if they have an accessible other option.

I said "an independent woman" - because the streetwalkers I have met were all independent, as in not connected with any shop or pimp. Thay definitely weren't paying the Yakuza anything.

...stand outside in the middle of the night wearing slutty clothes...
The ladies I met were wearing feminine clothing but certainly not slutty - and it was the middle of the day. The ladies I met didn't have the desperate attitude you seem to be envisioning. They weren't coming on to everybody (or even anybody else I saw) walking by - they saw my interest and approached me.

I don't know why I have to say this but I am not recommending that anybody does this. I am asking about punters who have had experiences with them and anywhere that this might be happening these days.

Fair enough. Just saying there is not really a reason for them to stand outside if there are freelance joints that are busy enough and where they can sit down.

There is a scene in Yokohama appearantly

In the Kabukicho/Hyakunincho area this activity is pretty much gone. They opened an Immigration enforcement office in the area, and patrol looking for girls working the streets on the regular, and occasionally bust shops as well.

There are a few around Hotel Monbijou on the backstreets between Shin Ookubo and Kabukicho. Most seem a bit older and some might be trans? I haven't had any experiences myself but I walk through that area at night once or twice a week and there are usually three or four out.

Saw an article last month on TNS about street girls in Harajuku giving it up for 3k yen. Didn’t even know this was a thing there but next time I go I’ll be on the lookout. Haha. Not to try of course, high risk and all, but just to look around for them. Not sure if it’s ok to link to another site on here so I won’t.

Sounds unlikely to me.
Harajuku is a tourist trap nowadays and it was never a street warikiri place like (long long ago) Shibuya or Ikebukuro, and i’ve never heard of such prices there at all.

Been here nearly 30 years, never heard of this ever - especially these days with Harajuku being a tourist mecca and all the actual "scene" kids having moved on to Shimo or Nishiogi and other parts of town the tourists haven't invaded yet.

Just shows you don't go out often enough. It was written in the internet so it must be true. I mean, why would they lie? :p

But still my favourite quote in TAG is "only homeless girls would do it for 5.000". The search continues.:D

When I read this I imagined a boy/girl couple of Chapatsu 20-somethings who had just met a while ago. Now it's 2 AM and they are sharing a Chuhai in front of a Conbini. One of them wants to skip the next 90 minutes of chatter before the inevitable love hotel and throws out a number in Yen just to cut to the chase.
