The Anything Goes Thread

Gosh I hope you’re taking the piss @Tabanico…

Not remotely! Apart from maybe The Father, I don't think I have seen a movie that examines the sum of humanity with such grace as ANY of the MCU movies.

I just hope they get Wong Kar Wai involved at some point. Maybe for one of the X-Men movies. SOMEONE needs to do justice to Jubilee.

You will all agree with me eventually!
(Thor: Love and Thunder is one of the best movies EVER made!)

ALSO ANT MAN IS THE BEST MOVIE ABOUT BEING A DEADBEAT DAD.

Guys, stop disagreeing with me!

In other news I fucking hate Sandman, but the one thing I DO like about it is that they actually just show Africans in medieval England. You might THINK this is just WOKE gone mad, but actually it is just reasonably historically accurate! As an (ex) historian, it warms the cockles of my heart. People who don't know history don't know that this stuff was normal. It reminds me of the time I wrote a thesis about gays in medieval england. I told my mum that I was writing a long essay about all of the gays in 12th century france and england and she was like, jesus mary and joseph, there were gays in the 12th century??? There was only one gay when I was growing up in Ireland. Fortunately her brother was with us at the time and he was like, fucking hell Clare, what the fuck do you think he did on his own, the only gay in Ireland?

That is how I choose to remember my mum (her birthday today - first one after she died the other month).

Also, as much as I fucking hate Sandman, episode 6 IS great.

Did anyone watch Prey? As a lifelong Predator fan, I enjoyed it. Even the Critical Drinker enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed it! I put it at #2 on the list.

I like all of the marvel movies! I actually genuinely think they are the height of creativity actually. I think it was Francis ford Coppola who recently came out and said they were all awful but actually I think the MCU is the modern equivalent of mean streets and taxi driver.

Apart from that I just like Wong Kar wait movies.
Most real directors think they are shit. I'm no director but I agree with them. Even John Waters said it's shit hahahaha

Some of the Marvel movies and shows were okay (Love and Thunder, DS:MoM) a few were not quite crap but certainly not great (Dark World, Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel, and She-Hulk ain't looking too good), and some were absolute genius (Winter Soldier, Homecoming, Ragnarok, Loki, Moon Knight).

As for Sandman . . . . when it comes to intellectual properties in one medium (that is novels, comics, etc.) being adapted for live action . . . FFS. Only Amazon's butchering of the Wheel of Time has disappointed me more.

I fucking loved Captain Marvel. The only thing I didn't like about it was Brie Larson's running, which was well crap. I wasn't especially impressed by the latest Doctor Strange but at least America could run properly!
And I LOVE the trailers for She-Hulk! Mind you, I also loved the trailers for Man of Steel and The Last Jedi.

While we are discussing movies: another movie I don't like is The Hunt. I think it is the most stupid thing I have ever seen in my entire life.

Mind you, the main actress has an absolutely smashing rack.

Are there any modern films that you DO like? I don't think I've ever seen you approve of any.

(And porn doesn't count)

That brings two questions in my mind.

They make movies other than porn?

And why?

It is pure dogshite. Stupid from start to finish
Absolutely! I couldn’t agree more! I hate Jake Skywalker. Everything I loved about my childhood hero, Luke Skywalker, was destroyed. I hope Rian Johnson chokes on a bottle cap.

Rogue One is the only Stars Wars movie I like other than the original trilogy. The original trilogy has it's flaws and plot holes for sure. Rogue One I felt got the Star Wars feeling very well with an added grit. I've definitely got Star Wars fatigue. I couldn't finish watching the Mandalorian.

Just when I thought there was no longer anything relevant, worthwhile, or inspirational on Instagram anymore. Hallelujah for fakkuboi.
