Historically, that's very, very true. Most people don't realize that all this Democrat VS Republican, Liberal VS Conservative publicity wars were just that--pure publicity, bullshit, acting and performance. No different from professional wrestling. For a time in my life I was actually a Congressional staffer, meaning I had official credentials, clearance and unfettered access to the parts of the Capitol that most Americans never get to see. Namely, the basement passageways, cafeteria and private underground subway for "Members Only" (and their staff).
You would routinely watch a several hour fight on the House floor, or Senate floor, with GOP and Democratic Senators/Reps screaming and yelling and roaring at each other, looking like they were ready to murder their colleagues on the other side of the aisle. What John Q. Public never got to see, however, was that 15 minutes after those "fights" were done, those same idiots who were screaming bloody murder at each other on the House/Senate floor were riding together on the private subway back to their office buildings, laughing and horsing around, slapping each others' asses and shamelessly hitting on their 22yo female interns/staffers who were far too terrified to say anything. The whole lot of them would stop back at their offices to bark orders at the staff and toss their portfolios (also just for show) on their desks and then all these so-called opponents (all male) would meet up again at some private champagne room or clubhouse, get shitfaced and then go out to continue the party and usually buy some high-priced wines and higher-priced escorts.
If I give Trump credit for anything, he basically put an end to the charade. Nowadays, when you see Dems and Republicans acting like they hate each other, they REALLY FUCKING HATE each other. He's forced everyone's hand, forced them to take a position and forced peoples' true colors out. He knows the media already hates him so he's free to be a loose cannon and say whatever he wants. And in the D.C. culture which is based on bullshit, this has made a lot of politicians extremely angry. TDS is real, and for good reason.
I give Trump and Bernie absolute credit for this: for better or worse, they've changed the culture in Washington forever and a lot of career politicians, whom Donald refers to as "the swamp," aren't happy about it.
