Hi friends of TAG,

Where do you think is the ideal place to live in Tokyo? Or outside Tokyo that with reasonable commute? And why?

I know there are many factors to be taken into consideration like budget and acceptable commute time. I didn't mention any of those because I don't want to limit the answers. I want to hear what do you think and this may help me to choose.

Thank you!

The Imperial Palace.
Its centrally located with easy access to the expressways and major transport hubs. Nice garden, lots of space inside, great privacy (people living in the tall building around it are not allowed to use their balconies if they face it).

Sorry to be blunt but without those limits the answers you will receive will have no practical value to you.

Basically you are asking who is the best escort in Tokyo without mentioning what kind of girls or services you are looking for. All you are going to get is some personal opinions and although they might be interesting they won't help you make up your mind.

You forgot the best part; no rent payments!

Agree, fair point! Athougth for escort I won't mind to try something new.

Where do you want to move to now if given the opportunity?

Centrally located. Easy walk to Minowa or Asakusa subway stations from which you can reach anywhere in central Tokyo within 30 minutes. Friendly neighbors, though sometimes they annoy you with their arms crossed in the form X.

Why though? Because of gaijin?

I didn't look at this area before. Just checked on Google map, it does look like a nice place, thanks!

I live in Shinagawa, it is not the most luxurious or fancy place in Tokyo, but it is connected with the JR Yamanote Line and many other JR lines including Shinkansen, very close to the Haneda International airport and there is the great Shinagawa Park walking distance which is a great unknown.

The best answer I can think up your question is, “How long is a piece of string? “

If you’d like it put in another way, “How much is a bottle of wine? “

My neighbourhood in Tokyo is just perfect for me, but unless you share the same hobbies, interests, and lifestyle preferences that I do, it wouldn’t be all that great for you.

Close to Haneda and Shinkansen is definitely a plus. I was considering this area. Thanks for sharing!

Totally get your point!

I guess I didn't really organise my question well. The question I am asking is in fact: "how much is a bottle of wine for you". Love to hear what everyone thinks about where is the best place to live in Tokyo.

If you don't mind sharing, more than happy to hear what your neighborhood offers!

In that case, the answer is that my ex-wife doesn't live in it. :D

I also vote for this. It’s my favorite neighborhood.

It’s close to, but not on the yamanote loop so it’s a little quieter.

The shops I visit in the area are always nice to me too. Even the ones I don’t frequent the workers will say hi and try to chat me up as I walk by. Seems a friendly bunch. (y)(y)

I'd tell ya but then there'd be another foreigner coming into my area and screwin up what I've got goin.

From a Japanese point of view FWIH, Inside Yamanote LINE is where ya wanna be. Also, when I was moving about 5 years ago, Wife and her family said living in Taito Ward is like the same in Nerima. Go figure Some Japanese thinking eh

Which park? (I found Shinagawa Ward Residents Park on Google Maps)

Yes, I like the neighborhood, not only 4-chome, but that of the surroundings, too. It's one of the areas where you can find old Tokyo. Walking to a Yoshiwara shop is always fun before fun.

The neighborhood is being gentrified. Now there are a few backpackers' inns and new condos within 4-chome...not sure if new developments are good for Yoshiwara soaps.

It’s because they are fans of X-Japan. When I get that gesture I start to sing « Forever Love » or « Rusty Nail » and they are flabbergasted that a gaijin could know their customs and culture so well.

Where not to live?

Anywhere tourists have an excuse to visit. Anywhere tourist guidebooks describe as hip, cool or bohemian. Anywhere recommended by perverts on TAG.
Yes but you must admit, our collective knowledge of « hip, cool and bohemian » places is rather low. Unless you count Kabukicho and Yoshiwara and Tobita among them

I would suspect that they played Ultraman just too much when they were kids...

Yokohama! Smaller version of Tokyo and only takes 35 minutes by train to Shibuya. You have Mermaid soapland nearby to get your rocks off. Rent is cheaper than Tokyo. You'll be in heaven!
