White Men of Japan

I used to know Iggy, he was never someone I thought of as "healthy"...
Well he must be super healthy in order to survive all the crazy stuff he did! :D
How did you know him if I may ask?
Ok he's not a "white man of Japan" but at least he's a white man so we are only half-off track here
(Or we could talk about David Lee Roth who actually lives in Tokyo nowadays)

Healthy in Keith Richards sort of way...

How did you know him if I may ask?

Lived in NYC and hung out in the same part of the East Village where Iggy lived. Met him first in this really weird sushi place near Thompkins Square Park and we got along so we'd hang out sometimes. NYC used to be like that. Pretty much how I kew some of The Ramones & The Talking Heads as well. Ryuichi Sakamoto used to live in the upper East Village also but he wasn't very social with people he didnt know.

I read he has an apartment behind Tokyo Midtown but never seen him around there. Maybe he's splitting his time between the US & Japan.

Wow! Impressive ! East Village must have been something back in those days, and yes these guys were probably more "accessible" than now. In the 90s I lived on Bleecker Street briefly but preferred the East side too.

The same could be said about this post you made where you singled me out...kind of like how Glen Singleton does with white people. <---You like what I did there? lol

Even if the woman doesn't believe in all the bs she is typing...why defend her on any level? You are stereotyping me all the time, which is why you always post most things directed at me lol. In this post you are stereotyping me as a guy who stereotypes a woman who stereotypes as well...to a much more extreme degree...so what is your point...other than trolling me?

At least in my post, I stated that all white people (regardless of gender) in Japan have problems, whereas that woman was categorizing all the types of men she arbitrarily "hates".

TokyoJoeBlow,

Satire and stereotyping are not the same.

Please let me assure you:

You are one-of-a-kind and impossible to stereotype.

Much of the time you are so off-the-wall that you should feel grateful that there are people that are willing to try to help you get back on track.

You have massive issues with anger management, paranoia, and misogyny. To your credit, I believe you have recognized that you have problems and have been getting help. Those of us who know and well, those of us who...those of us who know you, at least your TAG persona, have noticed your efforts to deal with your issues. I, for one, applaud you for taking steps towards becoming mentally and physically healthy.

Still, you have a long way to go.

And...
No, I do not defend her. Like you, she has obvious emotional issues and deserves a bit of compassion because of that.
People like her, with whom I have no connection, I ignore or avoid. For awhile on TAG, I took the same approach with you when you lashed out with venomous postings.

Please do not take anything in this post as an attack. You are truly a unique individual and have something of an endearing personality. You have become one of TAG's most notable personalities.

One Love,

Roots

Its possible we crossed paths back then.

I lived in NYC, too!! At upper west in late 90's near the Millenium for my second time. (Lived in upper east, as a child.) My good old days!
Maybe we passed somewhere, as well!!! (^∇^)

Please share if Iggy told you juicy stories about his various sexual experiences, we're on TAG after all! :)
Actually he didnt talk about that stuff at all. But based on line in the song you linked about "had it in the ear before" I just figured if it could be thought of, he'd done it.

I stayed below Central Park as much as possible.

david lee roth doesnt live here permanently, as far as i know... didnt even get a visa beside students visa^^

one thing i never understand is why white people always try to avoid each other, even though they technically could be good friends... usually they share the same interests and backgrounds..

and living in japan because they didnt fit in their home country doesnt make much sense, since here its usually far more conservative... though most might never notice...

Well he came indeed as a iaido student . Wonders whether he uses Tokyo P4P services or there are still willing Van Halen groupies here

Personnally i dont try to "avoid" white people but I am not especially looking for them either. But I get what you mean , Tokyo is good for misanthropes.

That thing about white people having the same background is very generalizing. I do have a lot of international friends, as well as Japanese friends, and there is some difference between "western" and "eastern" mentalities but backgrounds differ A LOT depending on country and social environment someone grew up in.
Americans are quite different from Europeans of course, its just as much of a different continent as Asia is. And even in Europe there are huge differences. Would you say Chinese and Japanese people also have the "same background"? While they certainly share some history and cultural things, and kanji of course, there are big differences in how they behave and what kind of environment they are from.

Also, just because Japan is "conservative" doesn't mean there is not more freedom.
The country i'm from does not have big cities with lots of people like Japan does, and there are less social groups one can fit into.
Like yes, if you work for a Japanese company you can be pretty restricted, but not everybody has such a job in Japan and the anonymousity in Tokyo is great, maybe ESPECIALLY so for a foreigner. It took me a while but it wasn't hard to find myself a bunch of unique friends and some great opportunities, which i would have never had in my country. Plus i can walk the streets here looking however i want and people mind their own business most of the time, while in my own country they feel like they have to police each other.

He is probably on TAG. New TAG game: Guess Dave's Handle.

Whatever/whoever he is "doing" in Tokyo I am sure he is having fun. He is a cool dude. Spotted him in my neighbourhood once. Quite a sight for sore eyes - pink hot pants and Doc Martens.

Ok, my guess: "Not Even Dave" :ROFLMAO:

My guess is that he had more than enough groupies who stayed in contact (or got back in contact when the internet came to life) which he contacts whenever he feels like yet one more "Madoka" or "Yukiko" (or "Junko" or "Fumiko" or... ) evening.

Agreed. But given that he's
1. A notorious perv
2. Interested in Japanese... err.... sword arts
3. Not exactly poor
I would not be surprised if he tried a soapland at least once

i dont even think about people backgrounds... the only thing i noticed when meeting foreigners (i must say that it doesnt happen often) is that they work the same jobs, got the same interests, the same taste and so on... and thats why i always wonder why people try to avoid others, while they should get along perfectly...
i would be happy to meet people with a similar taste to mine...

and yes, its as say... being anonymous is the thing... and probably because being foreign
no one really minds, every body thinks they are tourists anyway... but the people who dont fit in their own society are in my experience also frowned upon by japanese people...
i dont think that japanese dislike foreigners in general, though...

living in japan because they didnt fit in their home country doesnt make much sense, since here its usually far more conservative.

It is more conservative and socially rigid for the natives but the opposite for foreigners ime and opinion. Most Japanese believe (correctly in most cases) that gaijin have no idea how to behave properly by Japanese standards and therefor give them a pass for acting however they wish. They tend to assume that it is normal in whatever country the person comes from. This was more true in the past and is more true outside big cities when and where gaijin were and are less common.

Some expats call this "gaijin privilege", meaning they get away with things that would never be tolerated from a Japanese.

that might be true... in my experience it is the opposite... since i moved here i always had to do the same things japanese people had to do... i never had any advantage by being a foreigner, quite the opposite, in my first job here it was often like "maybe thats okay in your country, but in japan.........."

and that was like thay for everything, finding an apartment, finding jobs and so on...

yes, most japanese assume foreigners dont understand the culture and what not and often they might be right (i dont judge)... though unless they are drunk, japanese dont have any interest in foreigners anyway and usually only show them superficial things...

i am very jealous now^^
