Daily WHO Reports for the Coronavirus Outbreak (Link)

I'm afraid their "cluster busting team" has been dissolved. Very unfortunate.

In case anyone wasn't following the news, they are reporting 200+ cases today but they said on the news in the last day that they were testing large groups, like maids in Akihabara (~400+). News also said last night that there were zero (0) new critical cases, lots of people with no symptoms or obvious complaints.

Pipiyopiyopiyo Piyokosan Rice is served with coronavirus instead of ketchup?

it's so strange to see headlines of 200 cases while living in the US. 200 cases in one day would mean things are slowing down in the states. what a world.

Yeah, Japan's 300 new cases a day in comparison to the US 77.000 are kinda marginal.....less than 0,5%. But even if it seems like nothing, exponential growth raises numbers quickly. If you take care of it in the very beginning you have a good change to bring it under control and bring the numbers down close to nothing in a few weeks. The US has really fucked up when it comes to that....with millions of infected it will take months until the numbers die down, completely out of control at this point. Even if only few people develop critical symptoms, it's still a disaster because traveling and opening the borders is off the table for an eternity.

Yeah it's tough. hard to stay positive when all the 20 year olds are having covid parties. i read something about the 1918 epidemic and people were protesting masks back then so i don't have much hope. at least in my area the new cases are a lot lower.

Just join the party and become a positive yourself!

I was actually considering something like this so I could finally travel without worry again, until the news starting coming out that even previously-infected individuals are getting re-infected. Evidently the antibodies your immune system develops only last a few months. From what I've been reading about the vaccines we're testing now, similar story. So far they can't tell if the antibodies last longer than two months. But no worries here, Trump has been bragging about how he's going to buy "billions" of doses even before the FDA approves them, so us Americans are going to have so many vaccinations I'll probably be able to buy do-it-yourself home COVID vaccine kits from Walgreen's and I can sit in my office getting high off the injections (I heard they give you flu-like symptoms), shivering and shaking and masturbating to the hotties on FoxNews.

It's not a good news for PR holders, but some non-Japanese residents stranded abroad right now can enter Japan from Aug 5.

Their justification for the still stringent entry ban is the lack of testing capacity at the airports, but it is improving as they started administering saliva-based antigen tests. I understand EU countries are pressuring Japan to accept "essential travel exemptions" to the entry ban. The thing may improve sooner for non-Japanese residents in Japan.

At long last, the discriminatory measure is about to end. The J-government will allow non-Japanese residents to reenter the country from September, if earliest.

You're telling me, I'm losing a number of clients (Americans with Japanese wives) who've recently informed me that they're taking advantage of the spouse visa and fleeing to their wives' hometowns in the Kanto countryside. With the virus numbers exploding here stateside, they figure it's safer digging daikon and masturbating in rice paddies for the next six months, plus they won't have to worry about those ANTIFA and BLM jagoffs burning down every major American city if Trump gets re-elected.

On a brighter note, the news reported today that the Pfizer vaccine, whose Type B version has been in Phase III testing since late July and is showing the most promise with antibody development, is also proving to be remarkably safe even in the senior citizens being tested and even the old timers are developing more antibodies than those recovered from the actual disease. They're expecting to report outstanding trial results soon, possibly by late September, are then expected to apply for emergency FDA approval in October and the first doses may be distributed by November.

Since it looks like we may actually get a vaccine before the new year, I just hope Trump is right about trusting the military with distribution. I know the "experts" are saying that the first doses are going to healthcare workers, followed by high-risk groups, and that the rest of us may not get a dose until late 2021. To be honest, if all the older folks in my family can get dosed I'm fine having to wait a bit longer for myself. It's just going to seriously annoy me when I see all my elderly relatives partying like it's 1999 and taking month-long spring trips to Japan while I get to stay home house-sitting, drinking overpriced imported Dassai 39 (that shit is double the Japan price here) and trying to get drunk enough to pretend I'm actually taking a trip, too.

I live in a blue state where public finance is in crisis. Without fed's assistance what we are going to see is a series of big budget cuts. People are talking about nightmare scenario where the city or the state don't have resources to deal with mountains of garbage on the streets, growing number of gun crimes, parks occupied by homeless encampments etc. on top of Covid. If Trump is reelected, the nightmare scenario is likely to come true even without ANTIFA or BLM. So, yes, that's a good idea to escape to Japan if possible. That said, depriving your right to spend vacation in the home country is so inhumane even if the country in which you reside is Japan...
