The USAF has never really painted their aircraft in any special way. Aside from the Thunderbirds that is. The US Navy, however, back in the 70s and early 80s really had some nice looking birds.can you imagine your USAF jets back in the days decorated like that?
At one point in my life, I lived close to a Naval Air Station and got to see the F-14's flying regularly. That particular squadron was an inspiration to the creators of Macross.
