I read a few article about this earlier today. Here's one:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...rtists-meetings-safety-concerns-a6852671.html

I'm just curious about what the local PUAs think about 'Return of Kings". Is this guy legit in PUA world? It seems to be quite a movement.

Also, I tried to find out if there was a meeting planned for Tokyo but couldn't find any mention of one. Anyone have any news on that?

As an extra side note, I did read the full post by the leader that caused the 'legal rape' uproar and do believe that it was not serious. However, rape is one of those things that if you are gonna joke about it, you'd better be a fucking good comedian on a stage with plenty of cameras to catch the full context of the joke, otherwise... (@TJB, this is partly directed at you)

I figured this would make it onto this site soon.

Yeah he was joking I'm sure but he's still not somebody I respect. I'm sure the media will blow this out of proportion as well, and I don't really think the guy deserves all the death threats he's receiving but still yeah he's a douche.

Good to know, Sinapse.

The various reports I read make it sound like the Return of Kings is rather large. Do you have any insight as to how big a movement they actually are?

It's up to everyone to figure out if something is a joke or not, or somewhere in between.
No problem asking, but do you need only politically correct answers/posts ?

hahahah, the less PC, the better!

I had never heard of the group or Roosh V before reading any of this so I was just curious if they are as big a deal as the media is making them out to be

As someone who's been sexually harassed in her early teens, I have strong feelings about this. Though I've never been raped.

The dates and locations for the Japan meetups were February 6. Everyone had to come between 8~8:20PM. There was supposed to be one in Osaka (6-15 Kakudacho, Kita-ku) and one in Tokyo (Ebisu Garden Place Glass Square).

I got this info via a friend who screenshotted a website's article on the meetup.

I think anyone who is pro-rape is fucked up in the head. No one deserves rape or is "asking for it". I don't even care if he was joking, because rape is not a topic to make jokes about :/

Thanks for the info Ms. Not Sleeping Beauty

Does he identify as a pick up artists?

He is a MRA and as far as i heard he and his followers had this idea that rape should be legal on private property.
Which is totally weird and doesn't make sense. So if someone comes to your house they concent to have sex with you and can't change their mind about it?
Also they threatened that every women who would show up to protests the meetings would be raped.

There would be meetings in Tokyo and Osaka and as far as i know they were mainly adverticed in English so mostly for foreign MRAs.

He made a lot of the meetings private after getting threats.

This is what i have heard about it. Its pretty crazy.

Every location known for those gatherings has been targeted by various groups, and have been called off in the interests of personal safety. I'd rather they showed up and got the beatings they deserve.

Me too!

I read one post that they would still hold meetings but would only invite people who could proof they bought one of Roosh's books before a certain date or posted positive comments on the return of kings website before that certian date. Idk though.

It's amazing what Internet does. 20years ago noone would have even cared about the existence of that person nor known about it.

Not that anything changed for me in particular, but there seem to be a lot of people giving him way more attention than he deserves nowadays.

Man, people nowadays are just desperate for the next thing to be outraged at. his writing is obviously tryin to get a rise out of the media. Well, fuckin hook line and sinker, media. Nice one.

For the record I dont endorse his stuff either. he comes across like a whiney bitch.

I have no info or real idea, but my first impression is that he is trying to earn an income via large-scale trolling.

Deserves to be ignored (after being beaten!).

You never heard of GALNUC ? I'm surprised, it can play a key part in your life, and you can buy a book (the legacy of his succesful life)

I've done this joke about him. I don't know why I took the time or why I repost it here, I can't help it !

Several articles that I read stated that they were a PUA group, therefore that's why I posted it here. I honestly had never heard of them before although I saw the meme that DJV posted before and never made the connection.

As for the beatings mentioned by several above, wouldn't a better solution be to let them have their meeting, lock them all inside and eventually they'll all just rape each other?

ooops, I made a rape joke. Sorry! :D

Not exactly on topic, but this is a good point- Jon Ronson has a book out called "So You've Been Publicly Shamed" that's about this exact issue.

And yeah, he seems like an ass. I'm not above crude jokes, but if you are a one-note MRA (or anything else) guy it's gonna be tough to tell what's a "joke" and what's asshat behavior that's covered up by calling it a joke.

I was reading some of his earlier articles this morning, loads of good honest anecdotal points actually. hes drowning it out with clickbait bullshit now, cuz I guess that's what gets the notoriety. hes either a genius troll who knows what hes doing, or a dickhead attention whore whos pissing in the pool for the guys who actually wanna help both men and women get their needs met. The other side aint no good either tho. feminists/anger-mongers claim hes wrong to talk about rape, even as a thought experiment, yet somehow its okay to threaten death and promise assault. its a fuckin circus.

'Talking about ' rape is different from making light of rape which is actually a vile assault on someone and leaves many victims unable to carry on with their every day lives.

I don't support the lynching of PUA either.

actually making light of rape is also talking about it. I wasnt trying to imply its a harmless article or anythin mate

I don't see how these kinds of comments are any better than what Roosh said, jokes or not (what he said was also a "joke"). Seems basically the same to me - as @bruv said here:

Now we hit the PC point I was talking about earlier.

This is not about the jokes, it's about what'd behind the curtains : it's likely he committed some forms of rape himself, and that he doesn't condemn (and slightly encourages) others to do as well.

If the guy is in front of you and talking shit about rape, who knows : instead of reasonable doubt, you could find yourself committing a "reasonable slap" on its face.

I find the 2 above comments very interesting. I know only what I've read about Roosh. What Sinapse said takes Roosh's joke about rape and mine and other TAG members' jokes about assault and rape and places them in their own little vacuums. Taken as individual comments, yes they are equal in their badness.

DJV's comment is asking us to look at the jokes in their context of TIME and HISTORY. Has Roosh commited a form of rape in the past? Are his comments and jokes and lifestyle and surrounding himself with like-minded people a way of trying to justify something to himself/legally/morally? Have the TAG members who made their jokes committed any assaults against others? Are the TAGers jokes a way of 'getting back' at a group they feel represents some form of human interaction they dislike?

This kind of difference in perspective is really enlightening about not only this case but I think a lot of the debates that we see here regarding our own feelings and opinions about P4P, PUA, Sugar, escorting, etc... I think we all at times see things in a vacuum when convenient, and as a full context of time and space when convenient. Taking an absolute objective view of it all is challenging. Fascinating!
