Scammed In Shinjuku

It might work to take their picture secretly or of the location in which you met them or they took you to. Then you can post as a warning.

This kind of thing doesn't seem exclusive to Kabukicho, I was staying in Ueno, walking down the street from the main station towards Akiba, this Japanese guy in a suit would always offer me a "Super massaji".
I kept seeing this guy most evenings since he was on the route back to my hotel, after a few tries of trying to get me to go with him he got pretty aggressive, he followed me for a while and kept bumping into me and insisting I go for this massage but luckily he gave up after a few minutes. Another time in Ueno a drunk guy with a beer can in hand offered me sex but he may have just been horny and gay.

In Roppongi an African guy was even more persistent, trying to get me into his strip club, he followed me for about 10 minutes claiming to want to be my friend and saying I could have gone to his club for free, not sure what his scam would have been though.

My Japanese friend actually got into a fight in Ueno because of the scammers.

But my best advice is to stick to using the information centers (無料案内所). They are legit and very helpful. They have active PCs and people showing you which places are good and these centers is what helped me find Happy Berry. Even though there were no reviews of it on the net yet, they were openly advertising to foreign customers but nobody knew them yet until an information center guided me to them and I became one of the first reviewers and/or endorsers.

Sometimes a Japanese wingman or the recommendation of a Japanese friend may help. A Japanese friend asked at Pururungang if foreigners would be alright and they said as long as they spoke Japanese, it was fine. But I can understand keeping your mongering very private to yourself in real life and never sharing it with any of your real life friends.

I was walking with a friend in ikebukuro, when a random girl comes up and asks us where we are from. She then claims to be from London, which is obviously not true. It made my friend nervous, and she went away.

Anyone have any idea as to what it could have been about? He was certain it was a scam of some kind, but there were no details given.

Just thought id ask this here, since scams are the topic.

No idea. Sorry...

As Solong says, the black dudes r the least of n e 1's problems  they will take u 2 a hostess club with foreign girls. Yap, u may get overcharged if u dont clear up in advance how much ur supposed 2 pay 4 a set, and I know a dude who had his drink spiked and releived of his possessions while out cold, then dumped unceremoniously on the street. That was over 5 yearz ago tho:confused:

The Japanese touts r much worse these days. They never used 2 target gaijinz but now we r fair game.

I noticed that reports from guyz who got scammed have often been their 1st post on this site. Seemz a bit screwy 2 come here after the event, when it cuda been avoided if they had read all the warnings here 1st

In view of the increased traffic on this site, it mite b a good idea 2 have a dedic8d Kabukicho section :jimlad::headphone:

Still happening - a colleague from overseas was relieved of over US$10,000 on his personal credit cards, mostly through ATM cash advances that he can't recall making after getting roofied at one of the African clubs. This was earlier this year.

For what it's worth, the actual charges that were made to his cards were spread around a few restaurants in different parts of Tokyo. They seem to have a network of "friendly" shops that front them the credit card machines.

There were also a number of arrests made just a year ago in a case of a Japanese businessman who'd received a similar treatment.

Credit card scams happen everywhere in Japan and in bars. Once you get a customer drunk, plenty of bars will take advantage.

Hell, TGI Friday (a restaurant) in Roppongi tried to go ham on my credit card for extra drinks that I never ordered one time.

Watch you card and protect it.

Honestly, the first time I got scammed was by some Africans. The usual routine: overpriced, some hidden fees, photo shopped pictures, and ultimately a fat woman. I left early. So, they aren't just girl bars.

I am gonna put up a thread when I get round 2 it of SAFE PLACES 2 go in Kabukicho, which can be added 2 by bros based on their personal experiences in the area. Hopefully, by default this should put a stop 2 n e scams going down on bros here :blackalien::greyalien::writer:

In my experience (not only in Tokyo but worldwide), if it doesn't have an establishment or shop, never trust money on anyone, tout or provider, especially on the streets. For escorts, its usually money down upon entering the room and sometimes the pimp or tout will be there too to oversee the payment and will leave thenroom if he's sure that you are paying.

I've yet to have an escort in Tokyo, but i'm sure these "rules" also apply with variations.

Always remember: don't show the money until they have shown the goods.
