The Anything Goes Thread

On that note; Akira Toriyama has passed away on March 1st. That man has influenced so many mangaka and played a huge role in the JRPG world as well (worked on the art for Chrono Trigger and the Dragon Quest series).
Was at my local snack tonight and it was full on Karaoke by him. I had no idea but got a lesson. A fun night.

Do a lot of people on this board watch Japanese cartoons (normal or porn variety)?

The dose makes the poison.
I also watch anime and read manga from time to time. I. Not a fan of anything....it's just relaxing fun like any other kind of entertainment. I think it only gets obnoxious if people have it as their main hobby and annoy others with it...but that is also true for every other hobby

Japan was the 3rd country I ever visited and I've never had a strong interest in anime or anything about Japanese culture in general.

I had just heard of how clean it is, how good the infrastructure is, how safe it is, etc... and it just simply sounded like a good place to visit. Turns out it is so I keep coming back, but now I have other motivations too which you can infer from the website I'm posting this on.

I think that answer will be very different for the over 40 crowd. My first taste of Japanese culture was a karate dojo.

I didn't even know there is such thing as anime when I moved in. I was just thinking that certainly not everyone is kungfu fighting.

So I went to the mountains in winter to train kendo. Not recommended, will not repeat.

Oddly specific and absolutely not asking for myself but a friend: anybody know someone who made the move to Japan in their late 30s after getting a degree a few years prior?

I’ve met quite a few, most didn’t last two years.

Dragon ball Z was mainstream, it used to be on regular tv. Hardly anything otaku about that. I never had an interest in it though.

I would imagine that most people who moved to japan within this century did so because they got inspired by Japanese culture one way or another and for many people that was anime.
For me it was other things, but I acknowledge in recent years there is not much left to fangirl about except for anime.

Congratulations to the Irish rugby team for winning the 6-nation tournament a second time.
@Tabanico , I will proudly wear my Irish green jersey , with absolutely no legitimate reason to wear it except that it looks cool in front of the chicks. 😉

Lol. One of the least whelming tournament victories in years lol. But I'll take it!
